It has been a tumultuous week for the fighting game community with the ban of two notable players. What started off as a single ban for a transphobic outburst escalated into a double ban for “offensive statements online” by developer Capcom. It seems that Chinese gamers looking to relax in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are going to have a hard time doing so. In its recent March 31 update, Valve’s multiplayer first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which has seen record-high player counts in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, added two new maps designed by its player community for a 5v5 Exotic Places Contest. The maps are “Anubis,” themed like an Egyptian temple; and “Chlorine,” set in an aztec-themed waterpark. Fans looking forward to Cuphead’s “The Delicious Last Course” DLC will be sad to learn that the add-on content has been delayed into 2021 due to complications incurred by the coronavirus pandemic. On Twitter this afternoon, developer Studio MDHR announced that the final update for the game, which will add the playable Ms. Chalice character, won’t be hitting any platform until sometime next year. “In true Studio MDHR fashion, we aren’t content for this final chapter to be anything less than our best work,” reads an update from founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer....

A new trailer for From Software’s Dark Souls 3 surfaces online, revealing the sequel’s release date and some new, never-before-seen gameplay footage. Dark Souls 3 has been hotly anticipated since its development was confirmed at E3 2015, but From Software has deftly avoided divulging too many details on the newest installment in their wildly successful action-RPG. Gamers have been eager to get more information regarding gameplay as well as an exact release date, presumably so they can book a few days off work to play and a few more to recover psychologically from the brutal difficulty....

Red Hook Studios’ brutal turn-based RPG Darkest Dungeon is often brought up as one key example of a Kickstarter success, as the acclaimed 2016 indie game has left its indelible mark on many fans of the roguelike genre. Those fans will be able to get their gothic fix again when its sequel Darkest Dungeon 2 releases in Early Access next year. With a little under a week left until the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony and Bluepoint have uploaded an extended look at the extensive Demon’s Souls remake and the game still looks utterly astonishing. Leveraging a ton of the PS5’s power, it’s really quite breathtaking to behold. We haven’t seen visuals like this in any game before, on console or PC. It’s a real showstopper. That being said, this 12-minute trailer showed off very little that veteran fans of Demon’s Souls wouldn’t already know....

At its booth for PAX West 2016, the video game developer Bungie displays a replica of the Touch of Malice gun from its science fiction shooter Destiny. Although Bungie didn’t use PAX West 2016 for any gameplay reveals like Gun Media did for its most recent Friday the 13th: The Game trailer, the Destiny studio did have a presence at the event with its own booth dedicated to the action-RPG. As a matter of fact, beyond hawking its wares during the gaming festival, Bungie cleared out enough space to display an intricately designed replica of the fan-favorite Exotic Scout Rifle known as Touch of Malice....

Let’s face it, while the leveling system in Destiny may have been unique, it was confounding, to say the least. Although getting from level 1 to level 20 featured a very natural, experience progression, the light-based leveling that took players from 20 to 30 (and eventually 34) had little rhyme or reason to it. In fact, many saw it as an unnecessary obstacle to keep players from leveling too fast and putting Destiny back on the shelf....

It’s been a busy week for Bungie and fans of Destiny, as the massive update 2.0 arrived and brought with it sweeping changes to the UI, new weapon balancing, and it even added Nolan North as the voice of Ghost. The update also increased the importance of certain NPCs, such as Banshee-44, the Tower Gunsmith, who now offers players the chance to field test weapons which can be completed in exchange for reputation and eventually legendary guns....
