Bungie has updated its development roadmap for Destiny 2, revealing that some features will be arriving for the game a little earlier than expected. Specifically, the weapon slot changes teased for the upcoming Forsaken expansion will actually arrive a week before, on August 28th.

For those that have not been following the Destiny 2: Forsaken news, Bungie is planning to take almost all of the restrictions off weapon slots. So if players want to equip three shotguns they will be able to do so, but ammo will be limited since that is still tied to a weapon’s class. Meaning those three shotguns will all be fighting for power weapon ammo.

It’s a pretty big change for Destiny 2 and as a result, it seems Bungie wants to acquaint players with it a little early. On August 28th, players will be able to preload Forsaken and a new update will be available as well. Originally, the weapon slot changes were set to go live alongside Forsaken, which will be officially unlocked on September 4th.

Alongside the weapon slot changes, the preload update will also include a few changes and new features. The changes to Milestones and Challenges will go into effect, including the Flashpoint moving to a 4-day cycle instead of weekly. There will be updates made to the Director, presumably to keep the presentation clean despite adding at least two new destinations with Forsaken.

Heroic Story Missions are also coming back for players to re-experience story content with an added challenge. Bungie hasn’t said too much about Heroic Story Missions but hopefully, the rewards will be worth going back.

And perhaps the two biggest improvements of Year 2, Bulk Shader Deletion and 200 more Vault slots, are included with the August 28th update. This gives Destiny 2 players a week to clear out their inventory and prepare for all of the new loot coming in Forsaken. With random perk rolls on the way, that extra Vault space is going to go fast but luckily Forsaken adds the Gear Collection system to help reduce clutter.

It does seem as though these features will go live on August 28th, but it’s important to point out that sometimes Bungie’s Destiny 2 roadmap only details when a feature will be added to the game’s back-end. For example, the Solstice of Heroes event is in Destiny 2 but it does not start until August 31st.

Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
