Whether players are patrolling a planet solo or fighting other players in competitive PvP, Destiny 2 has something for everyone. With Season of the Worthy’s recent focus on revitalizing the game’s planets, many players might have discovered activities they never knew existed.
One such activity is Escalation Protocol, a wave-based Public Event that anyone on Mars can partake in. Players fight hordes of frozen Hive for seven waves, slaying bosses and controlling areas along the way. Some truly powerful and unique items are tied to this activity. If anyone is planning to obtain the Wayfarer title or just like collecting new items, there is no reason not to try Escalation Protocol. Here are all of the rewards associated with the mode alongside tips to complete it.
10 Escalation Protocol Rewards
Surviving seven waves of pure carnage comes with some unique rewards that you can’t find anywhere else. Those who survive Escalation Protocol can expect unique weapons and armor pieces.
Three weapons are tied to EP, which can be earned by defeating the boss that spawns in the final wave. The IKELOS SG v1.0.1 Shotgun, IKELOS SMG v1.0.1 SMG, and the IKELOS SR v.1.0.1 Sniper Rifle. The armor is an IKELOS inspired set that drops off the final wave’s chest.
9 Find A Group
If you want to complete Escalation Protocol, you are going to need a group. Completing this activity solo is possible, but it is much easier with others.
Since this activity is not matchmade, you will either have to find players on Mars already or find other players on LFG websites or services. If you prefer to find players in-game, you can rejoin the same area on Mars to force yourself into a different instance with, hopefully, more players.
8 How To Reach High Waves
The starting waves of Escalation Protocol as easy by today’s standards, but this activity quickly picks up the pace. Arm up with the best weapons and armor mods before heading into this activity.
Since every enemy players face is Hive, Hive-based mods from The Menagerie and Crown of Sorrow Raid work wonders here. Hive Armaments can give players practically infinite Heavy ammo as long as they have grenades. Frequently use Super and kill Hive with Masterworked weapons to generate Orbs of Light for the entire team. Chaining Supers should make killing hundreds of enemies much easier.
7 Crowd Control And Boss Damage Are Essential
As a swarm faction, the Hive will surround the team with dozens of melee enemies while pelting you with attacks from afar. Players will need to have methods of crowd controlling enemies and dealing boss damage if anyone wishes to beat this activity.
Crowd control is a phrase that refers to disabling the enemy’s ability to move or act willingly. Supers like the Nightstalker’s Shadowshot is a great example of a crowd control skill, blinding targets caught in the tether and forcing all enemies tethered to share damage taken. As for boss damage, use Heavy weapons and remember to use buffs and debuffs to keep damage high.
6 Skip To Wave 6 Trick
Joining an instance of Escalation Protocol that is on wave 7 or just killed the final boss is a great opportunity. Those who complete EP can choose to restart it at wave 6.
After the final boss is down and everyone grabs their loot, the Escalation Protocol towers will recede into the ground. Reactivate the event when this happens, and EP will begin again. However, the event will begin at wave 6 instead of starting over entirely. Find a group that wants to farm this activity and use this trick to get more chances at EP-exclusive loot.
5 Boss Tips: Bok Litur, Hunger Of Xol
Bosses rotate every week in a predictable pattern. The first boss in that rotation is Bok Litur, Hunger of Xol. This giant Hive Knight has no special mechanics and is the simplest boss to understand.
This boss has a tremendous amount of damage resistance against most attacks, which means players will need to pump an overwhelming amount of space-lead to take him down. Bring a Well of Radiance or Ward of Dawn to boost your damage. Alternatively, players can also push this boss off of the map if they can find a Cabal Interceptor. This boss can drop any EP weapon.
4 Boss Tips: Damkath, The Mask
Ogres are one of the toughest enemies in the Destiny franchise. Any boss that is a variant of an Ogre is going to be tough, and Damkath is a great example of this.
Damkath, the Mask is a Hive Ogre that can only be damaged by shooting his spine. Any attacks on the rest of his body will deal no damage. Have one player draw Damkath’s attention while the rest of the group fires on his weak spot. On death, Damkath has a chance of dropping the IKELOS Sniper Rifle.
3 Boss Tips: Kathok, Roar Of Xol
Players who have slain Crota in the original Destiny will instantly understand how to kill Kathok, Roar of Xol. Players must use swords dropped from the ground to kill Kathok.
Unlike Crota, these swords are used to damage his shield instead of his health bar. Kill spawning Knights nearby and use their swords to break his shield. Once its down, debuff him with Tractor Cannon or a debuffing ability. Fire everything you have at him before his shield recharges. Kathok drops the Submachine Gun.
2 Boss Tips: Naksud, The Famine
Out of every boss tied to this event, Naksud, the Famine is easily the hardest. If the team is not coordinating or players don’t have great damage against hordes, they won’t beat this boss.
Naksud is yet another Hive Ogre that can seriously damage players. Unlike most Ogres, Naksud can be healed mid-fight by Cursed Thrall that explode near him. Waves of Cursed Thrall will spawn during the fight, requiring teams to take them down before they reach the boss. If players can manage that, he is rather easy to take down. Naksud can drop any EP weapon.
1 Boss Tips: Nur Abath, Crest Of Xol
Just like Naksud, Nur Abath is an Ogre that punishes players for focusing solely on him. Managing the Hive he spawns is crucial to beating him.
An aura emanates from his body that Hive will try to enter. If they do, Nur Abath becomes immune to all damage. Nightstalker Shadowshots are fantastic for this encounter, limiting the enemy’s movement while also granting a strong debuff to tethered targets. If your team has strong enough gear, you can burst this boss down before any minions spawn. This boss drops the Shotgun.
