Another season has recently released for Destiny 2, and with it, a new event has been introduced. Named Contact, this Public Event tasks players with grabbing Motes from dead targets and banking them to summon a final boss.
The parallels to Gambit are obvious, but the way to approach this event is much different than Gambit’s PvE offering. Players will need to utilize Champion mods, bring powerful weapons, and coordinate with others if they want to consistently complete this chaotic event. Here are 10 tips for completing the Contact Public Event in Destiny 2’s Season of Arrivals. This list is in no particular order.
10 Bring Anti-Champion Mods
Just like past seasonal activities, Contact has Champion enemies that will spawn in to ruin your day. Unlike past seasons, these Champions are significantly more common.
Anti-Champion mods are essential if you want to complete this event. Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable Champions are all present and become more abundant as you clear waves. You will want to bring at least 2 different Champion mods to take them down. In general, the Barrier and Unstoppable Champions are the most annoying and should take priority in your loadout. Overload Champions can be killed quickly with a good Special or Heavy weapon.
9 Increase Your Power Level
Your Power level is everything in Destiny 2. This single number determines the damage you deal to enemies and the damage you take. Raising this number as high as possible will make every activity Power-enabled activity easier.
Contact’s toughest waves spawn enemies at 1040 Power. With a soft cap of 1050 Power this season, leveling your character before tackling this event isn’t a bad idea. The increase in survivability and damage you’ll gain will make this event less reliant on teammates. To level quickly, complete as many weekly Challenges on your Director as possible.
8 Bank When Possible
Just like Gambit, enemies in Contact will drop Motes that players must pick up and deposit at a bank.
Dying while holding Motes will cause them to be lost forever, so staying alive is paramount. While you can hold 10 Motes at a time, the bonus for banking multiple at once is negligible compared to the density of enemies. Bank whenever it is safe to make sure you make constant progress each wave.
7 Focus On Champions
After banking a set amount of Motes, a wave of Taken enemies and Champions will spawn in to block your bank and wipe your team. The Taken enemies can be troublesome, but Champions should also be killed first.
These enemies have an absurd amount of health that will require the firepower of multiple Guardians to take down. Champions also block your bank, forcing players to become aggressive and much more likely to die—losing all Motes they had on them. Take these Champions down before they can lock down your bank.
6 Use Your Abilities
This seems trivial in a game about wielding space-magic, but there is a shocking amount of players who forget to use their abilities during any activity.
Remember, you have abilities that wipe out hordes of enemies or deal absurd amounts of damage. Exotics that recover Super energy like Orpheus Rig and Skull of Dire Ahamkara are invaluable in this activity with the enemy density present. Weapons with Demolitionist are also useful for spamming grenades to lock down locations.
5 Find A Fireteam
Looking for a group, otherwise known as LFG, can be a daunting task for more casual players. If you want to guarantee success, however, this is by far the best thing you can do.
Since Contact is a Public Event, it does not have matchmaking. Creating and bringing a Fireteam to this event is best to counter this. If you are looking for a group, check out the Destiny 2 PC LFG Discord, Bungie Forums, or use text chat in a social hub to get a team together.
4 Crowd Control Is Key
Never has there been a better time to run crowd-clearing weapons and abilities than the Contact Public Event. Swarms of enemies make this event intense and allow for niche weapons to truly shine.
Enemies frequently clump together in groups during Contact, which makes Nightstalker’s Shadowshot Super particularly devastating. As for guns, Riskrunner is a fantastic choice provided you have the means to activate its Exotic perk. Regardless of what you decide to use, make sure you have ways of stunning or outright killing groups of enemies.
3 Bring A Sword
Swords received some significant buffs during Season of the Worthy, overtaking Grenade Launchers as the best Heavy weapon type in Destiny 2.
Things just got even better for Swords in Season of Arrivals. Two new Swords were added this season that have the same heavy attacks as Dark-Drinker and Bolt-Caster from the original Destiny, two of the strongest Swords in the franchise. Better yet, these Swords can run with damage perks like Surrounded for even greater damage output. When combined with the 50% damage increase Lucent Blade grants, Swords have never been stronger. Bring one to the next Contact Public Event and demolish any enemy that stands in your way.
2 Stay Mobile
As with most activities in Destiny, standing still will likely lead to your death. Mobility is key to staying alive during Contact.
Cover is minimal on Io during this event, and this issue will likely persist when Contact rotates to Titan. As a result, moving in and out of the arena to heal is necessary to prevent the loss of Motes. The arena isn’t large, but staying on the move will prevent hasty deaths or bosses chain-stomping you to death.
1 Utilize Seasonal Mods
Seasonal mods are the strongest mods you can equip on any armor piece in Destiny 2. This season and the 2 previous seasons opened up builds that allow for unprecedented damage output or survivability.
If you played during Season of the Worthy and obtained Warmind Cell mods, now is the perfect time to use them. The dozens of enemies that swarm the bank at any given moment can be significantly damaged with Warmind Cell detonations or suppressed with certain Warmind Cell mods. This season also includes powerful damage buffs for Swords and Sidearms at the cost of Charged With Light stacks. Besides Artifact mods, it’s hard to top the additional options these mods offer.
