It looks like The Drifter finally has something to do in Destiny’s lore with the upcoming fall expansion.
It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from ol’ Drifter. The last time he’s been a central figure of Destiny 2’s lore was back in the before times when Season of the Drifter was a thing. Now we find out that Drifter is on his way to Europa in Destiny 2’s latest trailer and we just don’t know what he’ll be getting up to.
The news comes first from Destiny’s Japanese Twitter account where the second teaser trailer dropped a little early. Then we got one from the game’s English Twitter account, but really, the language is kinda irrelevant.
What matters is who’s in the trailer, and it’s very clearly The Drifter. Note the necklace and the flaming coin.
From the earlier trailer, we know that whatever happens will be centered around Europa, a long-rumored new location. One of the moon’s of Jupiter, Europa is apparently a frozen world with snow covering much of its surface, as evidence by Eris Morn struggling through several snowdrifts.
A new cutscene that arrived in Destiny 2 confirmed that at least one of the Pyramid Ships has arrived in Jupiter’s orbit. It seems almost certain that two of the more controversial figures in Destiny are being drawn to one of Jupiter’s moons, but we’ll have to wait until June 9th to find out why.
