Luna’s Howl is the second Pinnacle weapon introduced to Destiny 2 during the Forsaken expansion. While Redrix’s Claymore requires Outlaw to be active for its Pinnacle perk to work, Luna’s Howl’s unique perk just requires players to have good aim.

Magnificent Howl allows players to 3-tap Guardians consistently as long as they’ve landed two precision hits in quick succession. It’s a powerful weapon that every PvP player should own. Even with weapon sunsetting around the corner, Luna’s Howl will still be one of the best Hand Cannons in Destiny 2 for Power disabled activities like Competitive. Here is a complete guide to obtaining this coveted Hand Cannon in Destiny 2.

8 Remembrance

Before jumping into Competitive and progressing through Glory ranks, players should first make sure they have the quest in their inventory. To obtain the Luna’s Howl quest, players should talk to Lord Shaxx in the tower and pick up the “Remembrance” quest. Progress towards Luna’s Howl without this quest is not retroactive excluding Glory rank.

7 Shock And Denial

To complete the “Shock and Denial” portion of the quest, players must complete 10 Competitive matches. Winning or losing count equally towards games completed.

However, a future step requires players to reach “Fabled” in Glory rank, so it is best to focus on winning the match by using good weapons, armor mods, and coordinating with teammates.

6 Pain And Guilt

“Pain and Guilt” asks players to defeat 150 Guardians with Hand Cannons while playing in Competitive. This will rotate weekly between Elimination and Survival, so players should check if the game type is based on Glory rank to check if the mode will count.

As for the kills themselves, only final blows count. Assists will not contribute to the 150 kill objective. Hand Cannons that are in the 150 RPM category such as Spare Rations are phenomenal for this step since they have fast fire rates and solid damage. Ace of Spades, Last Word, and even Malfeasance are solid choices for players that want to use an Exotic for this step.

5 Anger And Bargaining

Killing Guardians with Solar final blows is required for the “Anger and Bargaining” step. Players will need 200 kills in the Competitive playlist for this step, although they are not restricted to Solar weapons.

Solar abilities also count for this step, making this a great opportunity for Gunslingers to utilize Throwing Knives or for Titans to take out their Throwing Hammers. For weapons, Jotunn and Lord of Wolves are great to rack up a few easy kills. Players that own The Summoner Auto Rifle from Trials of Osiris can also complete this step rather quickly.

4 Depression And Loneliness

Saying this step is easy is an understatement. “Depression and Loneliness” tasks players with completing 3 Rumbles games regardless of winning or losing. Simply boot up the Rumble playlist and blow off some steam from the previous steps.

Loadout and kill count are irrelevant here, but players that care about winning Rumble matches should play aggressively with a means of healing such as dodging with Wormhusk Crown or standing in a Warlock’s Healing Rift.

3 The Upward Turn

It’s back to Hand Cannons and Competitive for the next step. Players will need 100 precision final blows with Hand Cannons in Competitive to complete “The Upward Turn.”

Less skilled players will find this difficult to do since Destiny 2 is such a fast-paced game. Hand Cannons with high aim assist like Ace of Spades and Spare Rations help with this step tremendously. Lining up every shot is important for this step, so it is a good idea to spend time getting acclimated with a certain Hand Cannon’s recoil pattern and sticking with it. Hand Cannon Targeting perks for helmets are also fantastic for making precision hits easier to land.

2 Reconstruction

By the time players have completed “The Upward Turn” step, they’ll likely be close to hitting Fabled in Competitive. This is the last objective players must fulfill before they can talk to Shaxx and claim their new Hand Cannon.

With that said, reaching Fabled can be a grind in its own right. Games get tougher as players get more skilled, which means a cool head is key to making progress. As a general rule of thumb, losing 3 or more games in a row is a great time to take a break to prevent frustration from seeping in. Finding teammates for the “Reconstruction” step is also a good idea. Various LFG Discord servers and even the Bungie Forums are good places to find like-minded teammates.

1 Acceptance

All of the major quest steps are finished. Once players reach the “Acceptance” quest step, they simply need to talk to Lord Shaxx in the Tower to obtain their new Luna’s Howl.

It might have received a few nerfs, but Luna’s Howl is still a phenomenal gun. Its a 150 RPM Hand Cannon with the accuracy of a 180 Precision Frame. Its unique perk, Magnificent Howl, allows the weapon to 3-tap Guardians reliably after landing two consecutive precision hits. Even after sunsetting gets introduced, Luna’s will still be a force to be reckoned with in Competitive and most PvP playlists. For players that want to push Luna’s to the extreme, they can attempt to reach Legend rank in Competitive to obtain Not Forgotten, a variant of Luna’s Howl with more range at the cost of reload speed.
