Since it began, the Destiny 2 Season of Opulence has continually been gaining momentum, adding new exotic content, a popular PvE mode, and the recently introduced Triumph Hall and Moments of Triumph. Now, the annual Solstice of Heroes event is just a week away, and Bungie has finally opened up about the event, noting that one of the biggest complaints from last year’s Solstice will be corrected and also indicating that players will be getting a small taste of what the Shadowkeep expansion has to offer before it officially launches.

As expected, this year’s Solstice of Heroes will once again see Destiny 2 players taking broken armor and upgrading it, through various challenges and tasks, over the course of the event. The armor gets an impressive visual upgrade as each quality level is reached, but unlike last year, the armor will still be viable once Shadowkeep launches, as it will be the first set of gear to utilize the new Armor 2.0 mechanics.

The biggest change made by this new armor system is that gear pieces will have additional stats that players can manage. In addition to Mobility, Resilience, and Recovery, armor will also come with Intellect, Discipline, and Strength, which have not been seen since the first Destiny game. The system will also feature more mods that players can insert, allowing them to truly customize their characters and power up their gear even further. The system’s ultimate purpose is to both allow players to customize something that fits their playstyle and to avoid forcing players to decide between style versus functionality.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
