If nothing else, Destiny 2 is fantastic at always giving you one more mystery to solve when you least expect it. These extra little quests that you stumble across are always worth your time, especially The Lost Souvenir quest. That’s assuming you’re able to unravel the mystery and actually complete the quest, though.

This one, in particular, is one of the game’s more difficult puzzles, but will earn you a rare reward well worth the effort. If you’re looking to solve this quest, or don’t even know how to find it, our guide has all the answers you seek.

This guide will have very minor spoilers for how to solve the riddle involved in The Lost Souvenir quest, as well as the reward you get for completing it. Keep that in mind before reading on if you prefer to save the surprise.

Starting The Lost Souvenir Quest

This quest is tucked away inside another event in Destiny 2 added in the Black Armory. You will first need to start the Izanagi’s Burden Exotic quest and progress until you have found all the keys to the Mysterious Box. Once open, you will get a pair of items: the Mysterious Datapad and Mysterious Decryption Device. The latter will lead you further toward completing the Izanagi’s Burden quest, while the former unlocks The Lost Souvenir questline. Make sure you finish the Izanagi quest first, since you are required to have that exotic before you will be able to finish this quest.

Gear Up

Once you have the Izanagi’s Burden sniper rifle, you will also need three other weapons on hand before heading out. You will need the Spiteful Fang Bow, Tatara Gaze Sniper Rifle, and Hammerhead Machine Gun. These weapons are the rewards you unlock by completing the Volundr, Gofannon, and Izanami forges.

To Niobe Labs

Fly over to Niobe Labs in the EDZ, South of Sojourner’s Camp, and find a switch in the center of the area. It will be under the platform in the center of the area. Activating this switch is what will officially begin the Lost Souvenir Quest.

Activating the switch will teleport you back and spawn seven symbols all around the lab. However, and here’s where things get tricky, the symbols are invisible unless you’re aiming at it with the correct weapon. So, not only do you need the right weapon to hit each symbol with, but you won’t even be able to see them if you don’t have that weapon with you. Here are where each symbol is located, and the weapon you need to shoot it with.

1 - Right from where you spawn, look to the pillar to the left. On the blue section facing towards you is the first symbol you need to shoot with the bow.

2 - The pillar opposite the first one, only on your right this time, only much higher up in between the yellow and black striped areas. Hit this one with the machine gun.

3 - Turn around from facing this pillar. The next symbol is facing the previous one. Snipe it.

4 - Check the floor to the right side of the pillar we shot the first symbol from and hit it with your bow.

5 - Whip out your machine gun and scan the floor of the upper balcony area between all the pillars. There are multiple symbols here, so make sure the one you shoot is of a star.

6 - Also on the floor here is a symbol of a hand you need to use your machine gun on next.

7 - The last symbol is directly under the platform you were just on. Head under and look on the roof to your left with the sniper rifle for the symbol of the black armory and shoot it.

Prepare for a Fight

Once the last symbol is hit, get ready for a tough battle. You’ll be invaded by waves of Taken that are equipped with shields that can’t be damaged by any weapon except for the Izanagi’s Burden. So long as you followed our instructions and got that weapon first, you’ll be able to pop their shields with it. While you can harm them with any weapon once their shields are down, the final shot still needs to be from Izanagi’s Burden or the Taken will never fall for good.

Get a Forge Essence

Once all the Taken have been…taken care of…the last step of the quest will be to get a Forge Essence. By now you should be familiar with how to get one of these, but if not you simply need to complete all the forges, Volundr, Gofannon, Izanami, and Bergusia, while fully equipped with Black Armory armor and weapons. It will be a tough grind, but you’re nearly there.

Collect Your Reward

Once you finally conquer all the forges with the correct gear and weapons, the quest will be complete. What is waiting for you? After a cutscene we won’t spoil for you, you’ll earn yourself a new emblem, Obsidian Dreams, and an Obsidian Accelerator. Take it to Ada-1 back on the Tower for an Obsidian Radiance. This item is required to upgrade any of the Black Armory weapons. Not too bad of a reward if you’re looking to run more forges and have a Black Armory weapon you’d like to buff.
