Although Bungie had previously revealed a universal launch time for Destiny 2 on PC, the developer had not offered much more than that. Today, however, Bungie revealed that pre-loading for Destiny 2 on PC will begin on October 18, giving plenty of time for players to install the sequel.
When exactly pre-loading will go live on October 18th is unclear, but those who bought the game digitally should keep their eyes on Blizzard’s Battle.net, where Destiny 2 will exclusively launch on PC. Physical copies, or rather physical download codes, are not affected by this issue.
Pre-loading will allow players to download the 68GB game files ahead of time, and in turn clear up the servers on launch day. That’s not to say that players shouldn’t expect the possibility of a queue to sign into the game on October 24, especially considering the universal launch time versus the rolling midnight launch that the console version of the game had.
With Iron Banner concluding earlier today, all eyes are shifting toward the PC launch of Destiny 2. Many fans are excited about the game being able to run at 4K with an uncapped frame rate, and a new launch trailer was just released showing off the visual fidelity of the game on PC.
For those interested in getting the game, Bungie has detailed the minimum and recommended PC specs for running it. The PC version comes seven weeks after the launch of the console version (with many of those players starting to get bored of the endgame), but there is a whole new audience for the game to reach with this being the first time the Destiny franchise will be on the PC. On top of that, many hardcore fans are actually planning to switch from consoles to PC, which could give the release an even bigger boost.
Even so, those PC players (new and transitioned) will hope that Bungie can get around to addressing the complaints about the endgame. But the first expansion planned to launch for both console and PC in early December should help inject some new life into the game.
Destiny 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on October 24, 2017 for PC.
