The Destiny games have been a powerhouse in the MMO world for a few years now. This unique world of Sci-Fi and Fantasy has gathered a large fanbase that can’t get enough of what the world has to offer.
Of course, there are always players who have some issues with the game that range from valid criticisms to petty nitpicking. Then there are the opinions that may or may not be valid but are considered unpopular by the general fanbase. Here are some of those latter examples as seen on Reddit.
10 Titans Don’t Need A PVP Buff
Balancing classes in a PVP-based game is always going to be a nightmare. The developers have to cater to different playstyles and strategies. Not to mention the skill level of the players themselves have a major impact on things.
This Reddit user feels that the Titan class in particular doesn’t need any balancing. As they state in the post the Titan has a one-shot melee ability no matter which subclass is chosen. This gives them ample opportunity to win fights.
9 Meta Doesn’t Make You Skilled
Metas arise as a result from skilled or popular players sharing their loadouts and tactics for winning. Metas by nature will change and adapt over time as players establish standards and clever players counter or subvert those standards.
This user on Reddit states, among other things, that simply using a meta doesn’t make a player skilled, and requiring it takes away from the game. Some players are simply better with other weapons and would be handicapped by metas or other players have more enjoyment from other weapons. In their mind, the requirement from players that all members of the team wield ‘x’ is entirely subjective and not a viable strategy.
8 Popular Bugs & Exploits Should Be Fixed
Bugs and exploits are an unfortunate reality of any game. No matter how many a developer fixes new ones will appear with future updates and expansions. Interestingly many players become attached to certain bugs because it allows for faster grinding or even bypassing challenges entirely.
One Reddit user believes that all bugs and exploits should be fixed no matter how beloved they are by the fanbase. In their opinion, it takes away from the point of the game which is to overcome challenges and achieve progress within the framework of rules set forth by the game.
7 Nostalgia Lenses
One of the major gripes of the fanbase is that x mechanic or feature isn’t as good as it was in the first game. In the beginning, this was true and there are many differences between the two titles.
Yet as this Reddit user points out it might be because players can’t see through nostalgia. Over time the developers have released a number of updates and changes that make it a different game. Setting aside nostalgia a major difference that could fuel the division is that the first feels more Sci-Fi and the other seems more fantasy.
6 Losing Loadouts Needs to Happen
The longer a game goes on the harder it becomes to give players any real sense of progress. Eventually, the power levels of items and the damage output become so absurd it becomes meaningless.
This user on Reddit suggests that sunsetting or retiring certain items or even entire loadouts is essential to keeping the game fun. Instead of being stuck with a single powerful weapon, players can experiment and try new things.
5 Strike Bosses Should Be Tougher
Bosses in general represent a litmus test for the player’s skills and abilities. As a result, they should represent a challenge and give players a sense of accomplishment when defeated.
This redditor feels that current Strike bosses don’t feel like genuine bosses. They readily admit that quickly decimating a powerful boss can feel fun and empowering, but it quickly loses its appeal. It’s far better to have something that requires effort and strategy to take down.
4 Slow Times Are Good
Many players were upset when the developers had to slow down the development of Destiny. It resulted in what many considered content droughts and some players were at a loss on what to do.
This Reddit user argues this is in fact a good thing. Often times the game can make players feel like they’re missing out if they aren’t constantly plugged in and grinding specific activities. For this user, it’s sometimes nice to have some down time between releases to mess around and take it easy.
3 Original Gambit Was Better
Developers will often tweak game modes to make them more interesting and draw players in. Sometimes it’s simple shifts to the way things work and other times it’s a complete overhaul.
This user on Reddit feels that Gambit was much more interesting in its original form when compared to the newest version. Now they believe it feels like you either dominate or get dominated early on in the fight. For them, the previous model of being able to come back as a losing team and still win was more fun, even if it took a little longer than current games.
2 Destiny Isn’t Dark Anymore
The story of Destiny is sown in darkness. The world was nearly destroyed, a vast cosmic power known as the Darkness seeks to eradicate all light, and the only thing keeping everything together is a small faction of undead humans embroiled in civil war.
As this user on Reddit notes it feels like that story of darkness and hopelessness is giving way to silliness and a PG-based tale. They cite the confrontation of Darkness as lackluster and tame rather than the nightmare fuel cosmic horror it should have been.
1 Limited Availability Rewards
Having powerful weapons and gear is a main point of playing Destiny. There is always some better weapon or elusive piece of gear that could enhance and complement the character’s efforts.
But as this user on Reddit points out it feels strange to have everyone running around with legendary and exotic weapons that are meant to be one of a kind artifacts. Cayde-6 only had the one Ace of Spades after all so why are there thousands of them? Having a time limit for how long certain gear can be owned or genuinely having one of a kind gear in the world would make things interesting and flesh out trading.
