Demon’s Souls on PS5 takes a lot of effort to beat. In addition to increasing stats based on soul level, you’ll also increase a weapon’s power by upgrading them individually with the help of a blacksmith. For a large portion of the journey in the launch title, Blacksmith Boldwin’s upgrades will suffice.

Later on, however, you will need something a little more to help gain the edge over harder bosses and enemies. This is where Blacksmith Ed comes in. He is not particularly hard to find, but you’ll still have to do a couple of extra things before you can upgrade some of your weapons to their highest potential.

Were Is Blacksmith Ed?

Finding Blacksmith Ed is easy, and all it requires is first beating Phalanx in order to unlock the rest of the Archstones. If you are having trouble beating this part, read a walkthrough of Boletaria’s first area here. After beating Phalanx and talking to the Monumental, go to 2-1 and proceed through the dungeon.

Eventually, you will reach the highest point of this mine where a fog door awaits. Before going through the fog door, keep going forward and you will head outside. To the right on the scaffolding is a wheel. Activate it and the platforms near you will start moving. Ride these to the bottom and Blacksmith Ed awaits, banging away at his craft.

How To Access The Advanced Upgrades

Blacksmith Ed is not exactly a people person, but he opens up if you talk to him enough. Before being able to unlock advanced upgrades, you first have to talk to him several times. Afterward, he will mention bringing something to him for better upgrades. Leave the conversation, talk to him again, and then you’ll have the option to give him the Searing Demon Soul, assuming you already have it. If you still lack it, then there is one more thing to do.

Searing Demon Soul

The Searing Demon Soul is dropped by the Flamelurker. When it comes to early game bosses, it is quite challenging. It is at least relatively easy to find. Flamelurker is the second boss of the very Archstone where Blacksmith Ed is located. First, you have to beat the Armor Spider and then venture through the Stonefang Tunnel, or 2-2.

This area is one of the more confusing labyrinths of the adventure, but there is an easy way to bypass most of the area. After the first boss, the tunnel breaks off into left and right. Take the right fork and you’ll come to a pit. Slowly descend the pit by jumping on the scaffolds and then you’ll be at the boss in no time compared to the other route. After beating the beast, return to Ed and give him the Searing Demon Soul. Now you can finally upgrade weapons with other special souls dropped by different bosses. Each soul from a boss can only be used once, so think long and hard before activating the upgrade.
