Demon’s Souls is a must-play for anyone who enjoys Soulslike games. The 2020 remake for PS5 not only looks way better than the original, but it added new things like photo mode, new weapons, a new game mode, etc.
While players have been enjoying this new version of the game for quite some time now, there are still things that make players raise an eyebrow in disbelief, and the latest game additions have unleashed a wave of fan theories. Take a look at things that don’t make sense and a few fan theories that do.
10 Fan Theory: The Secret Door
A short time after the Demon’s Souls remake released, players noticed a new door that was added in the game, a door that didn’t exist in the original game. Players haven’t opened this door, leading to many theories about this place.
The most heard theory is that it will lead to a future DLC; you can find this door in the 1-3 region of the game. Recently, someone opened the door and what was found was a little beyond the theories of the fans: the armor set belonging 1-3’ boss, the Penetrator.
9 No Sense: The Ring Of Uneven Abilities
The ring of uneven is a new addition to this remake, but also, it’s pretty useless once you obtain it. Trade gold coins to Sparkly the Crow to get this item, which you can find on world 4-1.
Once you have bought this item, you’ll be disappointed as its ability doesn’t seem to help you much. There is a reason why this is called “uneven.” When you use this ring, your total item capacity doubles, but it lowers your equipment weight limit. So, there is no good reason for using this jewel in a game where you need more equipment than any other.
8 Fan Theory: Ceramic Coins
Once you have completed the game, a new option is unlocked called Fractured Mode; this mode acts like a mirror and flips the map horizontally. In this mode, players have discovered a new item: The Ceramic Coins. These items only appear once you have reached Pure White or Black Tendency levels.
Players can’t duplicate these coins through traditional methods used in Demon’s Souls, which has led them to ask if this item has something more behind its value. There are ten known Ceramic Coins in this world. Gamers believe that a certain number of these coins could be traded to get something desirable, maybe a secret key.
7 No Sense: Mephistopheles’ Reward
Mephistopheles is an entertaining character. However, her logic is somewhat flawed. When you play this questline, your mission will be to assassinate various characters and win prizes by doing so, something that is fun. It all starts once you end up killing Yurt, someone who was working for Mephistopheles. After this, she will order you to continue with Yurt’s mission since a corpse could not fulfill it.
Once you have completed the entire mission, Mephistopheles reward is killing you; it makes perfect sense. She argues that you know too much about the dark arts, so she must eliminate you. However, if she could kill you herself, why didn’t she do the mission alone?
6 Fan Theory: Strange Sounds
Since the game’s release, players have noticed a clanging sound that didn’t exist in the original version, ringing in many places of the game. Though Sony has confirmed that this is a glitch, many players have their theories about these weird sounds.
Players thought at the beginning that this was a sign that the World Tendency was being altered online, something similar to how players ring the Bells of Awakening in Dark Souls. Other players thought that this sound was connected with the mysterious door.
5 No Sense: Why Is Patches The Hyena Still Alive?
Patches, the detestable Hyena, is the kind of character that would stab you in the back if you gave him a chance.
In the game, this shady character betrays you, and if you happen to forgive him, something that anybody would understand, you’ll find him later in the Nexus, and yes, he still will give you some trouble. If you fall for his trap, you’ll know that he did the same to Saint Urbain. Players can’t understand how he hasn’t been killed yet.
4 Fan Theory: The Northern Limit
Once the Ps5’s Demon’s Souls remake was announced, the trailer let fans see epic landscape shots. Among these shots, there was one of a mountainous area covered in snow. Fans thought that this was The Northern Limit, a place players haven’t seen before.
In the original release of Demon’s Souls, five areas were announced, but a sixth area called The Northern Limit is mentioned in the game’s story and teased in the main hub. However, it seems that this part was cut because of budget problems. Maybe in future DLC this area will be unlocked.
3 No Sense: Powerful NPCs
Well, the NPCs in this game are powerful, like seriously mighty. In Demon’s Souls, they can perform powerful spells and wield a blade flawlessly. So, why do these characters need to be saved? Like, how could they get captured?
To give you some examples: Sage Freke is an advanced magic wielder; Yuria is a Souls Arts master, and Bior could even defeat Penetrator by himself. With all these powerful NPCs, some players can’t understand how pretty weak demons could capture them.
2 Fan Theory: The Maiden In Black Is Supplying The Old One With Food
The Maiden in Black is one of the few friendly faces players meet during their gameplay as she allows The Slayer of Demons to consume the soul’s power in the Demon within her. Apart from that, she is the one in charge of putting the Old One to sleep.
However, a fan theory theorizes that what the Maiden in Black is doing is supplying the Old One with a constant food source. This way, she stops the ancient demonic entity from devouring all of existence or maybe just the earth. This allows humanity to multiply in peace and The Old One eventually reawakens and needs to feed again.
1 No Sense: The End Of Ostrava
In this game, Ostrava wants to find out what caused the kingdom’s demise and if his father was behind this tragic event. He is not a very good warrior, so you must save him many times in the game until he finds his father’s quarters.
After finding the truth about his father, Ostrava is affected by this and kills himself in soul form. Later in the game, he appears as a Black Panthom in his father’s quarters. Some players think that it would have been more logical that he’d fought against his father instead of fighting you.
