The American company Mondo have announced the release of a stunning 3XLP that will feature songs from Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. The vinyl is retailed at $45, and is the perfect collector’s piece for fans of the visionary action game.
Not to be mistaken for Ludvig Forssell’s atmospheric score, the Death Stranding compilation vinyl features 22 of the haunting songs featured in the game from various artists including Low Roar, Silent Poets, CHVRCHES and APOCALYPTICA. The tracks are pressed on 3x 180 gram colored vinyl that features a tri-fold jacket where the discs are placed. There are four tracks featured on each side in a well-balanced display of Death Stranding’s musical journey that fans have already rushed to order.
The LP cover art features a floating black leather glove that’s ready to catch an array of six dog tags that appear to be using anti-gravity. The dog tag equations have become a popular trend for fans of the game as the personalized tokens have been circulating the internet. The inside covers feature beautiful concept art by Randy Ortiz of a fiery sun, cosseted in clouds, beating down on the rocky plains of the game’s terrain. The pack contains 3 vinyls that all feature an ink blot pattern on the surface in black, gold and a pink hue.
Mondo also features Ludvig Forssell’s score on 3XLP vinyl for the same price that features the same disc patterns. The concept artist is from artist Max Löffler’s design that depicts various spheres surrounding amputated hands that appear to be reaching up to catch a ball of fire. Forssell’s original music has been described as bittersweet, ambiguous and beautifully eerie at points that all add to the Death Stranding ambience during game play. The score was a perfect accompaniment whilst players travel through various terrain and hardship to complete missions and Mondo claims that if Death Stranding were a movie, then Jenny Plant’s lullaby would have been Oscar-nominated.
Death Stranding received awards for Best Performance for Mads Mikkelsen, Technical Achievement and Best Studio/Game Direction from The Game Awards last year with a BAFTA for Best Score/Soundtrack.
