As trainers discover how little a chance they have of hatching a Deino during Dragon Week, it has become abundantly clear that Niantic needs to reveal its hatch rates.

Hatching eggs is a big part of Pokémon GO. In fact, a lot of the time, that’s the best and easiest way for trainers to get their hands on a certain type of Pokémon. At least that’s how it appears on the surface. In reality, hatch rates of certain Pokémon are pretty low, even during events where Niantic touts that rates have been increased.

That has never been clearer than it is this week. After a successful GO Fest, trainers earned themselves a number of events. The first of those events kicked off last weekend in the form of Dragon Week. Dragon-types are notoriously hard to come by in Pokémon GO, so a week during which they appear more frequently is very welcome.

The trouble is, trainers are discovering that some of the dragon-types they hoped to catch this week aren’t actually that readily available at all. Niantic flaunted the fact that Deino would be available via 7km eggs. Although the developer admitted the Pokémon would still only appear on rare occasions, as always, it would not divulge exactly how rare Deino’s hatch rate will be this week.

Some digging by those at The Silph Road has discovered that the hatch rate for Deino this week is no higher than 0.5%. That alone is evidence that Niantic needs to be more transparent when it comes to Pokémon GO’s hatch rates. Players unaware of how rare a hatched Deino still is despite it being Dragon Week will be pumping money into the game this week, not knowing that the chances of hatching the rare Pokémon are still just 1 in 200.

That’s what Niantic wants, of course, and we understand that some Pokémon are supposed to be hard to get. However, even upping the hatch rate to 2% and telling players that might be in Niantic’s best interest. As players discover exactly how rare Deino still is, they might well give up on trying to get one and stop spending money on incubators this week. Up the hatch rate and broadcast that news to the world and a lot of those trainers will get back to spending and hatching.
