As promised by indie director Hidetaka Swery, Deadly Premonition 2 has been receiving numerous updates since its launch in early July. The biggest complaint, the title’s abysmal framerate, was tweaked shortly after release and has just received another patch. The performance isn’t exactly what you can call “smooth,” but it will be noticeably better than the retail release.
The update was released sometime over the weekend, as confirmed by producer Tomio Kanazawa. In a post on his Twitter account, he also revealed that an inverted camera option has been added to Agent Morgan’s zany adventure. That should help those that play games like they’re upside down.
There’s still a lot of work to be done with Deadly Premonition 2. It’s wonderful that its director wants to continuously improve the game to meet fan standards, but it absolutely should not have been released last month. However solid the actual design may be, the game ran worse than most N64 titles and was filled to the brim with tons of racism and transphobia.
Things are at least looking up. With some more patches and even a bit of a script redo, there’s a chance that Swery can redeem this game. We all need more Francis York Morgan in our lives, but he should at least be able to perform well.
