A lot of fans may be happy with Deadly Premonition 2, but it’s hard to deny that things are wrong with the game. It not only runs with an absolutely unacceptable framerate, but it has a rather troubling depiction of a trans character and hints of racism within its dialogue. There’s certainly room for improvement and a new patch seems to be making steps in the right direction.

Available right now, fans can download the first performance fix for Deadly Premonition 2 that partially addresses the framerate issues. It also has tweaks to its trans character, making for a more pleasant and acceptable experience all around. Director Hidetaka Swery released the patch notes on Twitter and noted that more work will be done in the immediate future.

It is a shame that the game even shipped with so many issues, but that was likely due to a rushed development cycle. No developer ever intends to make a bad game and there’s likely some weird CPU issue with the Switch’s mobile chip that prevented Deadly Premonition 2 from running better.

At least Swery is dedicated to improving things. That’s a rare stance to see from developers in the industry nowadays. I’m still not 100% sold on Deadly Premonition 2, but I’ll likely end up grabbing it once all of the problems are ironed out.
