Dead By Daylight has finally been announced cross progression, but not quite to the level we’d expect. Celebrating its 4th anniversary earlier this year, this asymmetrical multiplayer game steeped in horror history has maintained a loyal and growing audience of genre fans over the years. Starting out with only referential characters, they have since been able to include legendary characters such as Freddy Krueger, Ghostface, and recently Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2.
Coming from the official blog, the developers behind Dead By Daylight have confirmed that cross progression will be implemented into the game this September. This is fresh off the announcement that cross play would also be coming to the game before the end of this year, so a cross progression announcement was expected. However, this cross progression is only announced for the Steam, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Nothing is known at the moment for when the remaining platforms would be added, if they will at all.
The team laid out in that same blog post just how cross progression will work. They will roll out what they’re calling “Behavior accounts,” which is where player data will be stored. When you then log in on another platform, this account will be accessed to pull your progression and apply it on that platform. The team seems to be taking this very seriously stating that “all our efforts will be focused on monitoring account merging to ensure that players will not have any issue during that complex process”. This could imply that no other major updates or additions will be coming to the game while cross progression is being added.
Even though cross play has not been given a firm release date yet, we do know that it will be coming to all consoles and the PC, which makes it all the more strange that cross progression is limited to just those three platforms. Hopefully the developers are planning on bringing cross progression to the remaining platforms, and are just rolling it out in stages to make sure it functions properly, but only time will tell.
