via: EmilyLina
In Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, you can find the Red Ribbon army bunker, created by the evil mastermind Dr. Gero. Instead of Android 13, 17, 18, and Cell, you will find Android 21 inside the bunker, which is not a part of the original series but a new android that Goku has to defeat to save planet Earth. If this wasn’t a big enough challenge for you, wait till Android 21 fuses with Buu and all hell breaks loose. Remember that old saying? One should always be careful what they wish for.
9 Fan-favorite Villains
The major villains in this game, namely Mira, The Demon King, and Towa. Both of these are not featured in the original show or even the movies, in fact, they are fan-favorite in-game characters from the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series of games.
These are the final bosses of the game and don’t expect them to give up easily as this will be the ultimate test of your skills at the game.
8 A Nod To The Simpsons
Who would have thought that a Dragon Ball game would feature a reference to the Simpsons? During the Frieza saga, you see Krillin donning the Saiyan Armor and during one of the cutscenes, he bends over and says, “Feels like I’m wearing nothing at all!”
This is a callback to the Simpsons episode from Season 11 called “Little Big Mom”. In this episode, Homer’s neighbor, Ned Flanders is seen wearing a skimpy outfit, in which while shaking his buttocks, he utters the exact same line. Krillin is seen mimicking the exact scene, though with a conservative attire that offers a lot more coverage.
7 A Fresh Taste Of Nostalgia
Casual fans might not know that Dragon Ball Z was preceded by the series Dragon Ball, the series that follows the journey of Goku growing up. This game brings back some memorable characters from the prequel to give you a dose of nostalgia. General Tao was given a heavy bounty from the Red Ribbon army to take out Goku once and for all. Though he might seem to be quirky and funny, don’t expect General Tao to go down easily.
6 Where It All Began
Another Dragon Ball reference can be spotted when you start out with the game. This part of the game serves as a great tutorial for players to get accustomed to the general controls of the game. Chichi asks Goku to gather fish and other items and you need to go fishing with Goku and Gohan, you’ll notice that Goku uses his tail to catch the fish. This is a callback to the first-ever episode of Dragon Ball where young Goku is seen wiggling his tail in the pond to catch ridiculously huge fishes.
5 Your Wish Is My Command
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot gives you the flexibility to follow the story as per the show, or even revive your old nemesis by wishing them back from the dead. Sheron, the legendary dragon which appears after all the 7 dragon balls have been collected, can make your wish come true. What’s more, the developers have also added dialogues and cutscenes for various characters. Don’t expect a whole storyline though, nonetheless, bringing your favorite characters back from the dead is a welcome addition.
4 Vegeta’s Pink Shirt
Fans of the series might vividly remember that when Vegeta decides to settle on Earth and have a baby with Bulma, his rage seems to have calmed down quite a bit.
We even see him trying to live a good samaritan’s life. Fans might remember him wearing a pink shirt, a shirt that only Vegeta can pull off with such machoism. It says ‘BadMan’ on the back, just to remind you that it’s just a matter of time when the Saiyan prince is back in action.
3 A Driving Test To Remember
Thanks to the expansive open-world gameplay of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, players are able to take part in a variety of activities. One of these being the driving test. Fans have a fond memory of this one. The episode where Goku and Piccolo try their hand at learning to drive a car like normal people, instead of flying. This also features the driving instructors from the original series. Besides, who wouldn’t want to take Vegeta on a drive?
2 Trunk’s Time Capsule
Once the game is complete, the developers have devised an ingenious way for players to access the DLC episodes and content. You can utilize Trunk’s Time machine to go into the future and play out different scenarios. This feature greatly expands the replayability of the game, keeping fans coming back for more. In addition, it keeps the integrity of the original storyline intact while offering new possibilities. Users need to beat the game to gain access to the vividly egg-like time capsule that Trunk uses to travel back in time.
1 Red Ribbon Goons
When you start the game, you’d notice that the very first opponents that you will have to face are box-shaped robots with ‘RR” imprinted on them. The RR logo refers to the Red Ribbon Army. These enemies are directly taken yet again from Dragon Ball, the prequel to the Dragon Ball Z series. These robots were featured as a park of Dr.Gero’s Red Ribbon army, created for the sole purpose to destroy Goku aka Kakarot. It was this Dr. Gero who would later go on to create the deadly Android 13,17,18 and Cell. Don’t discount these goons as they pack quite a punch.
