The alternate reality game for Call of Duty Black Ops has reached the end of its fourth day, but with less in the way of immediate interest than we would have hoped. Today’s location is near Promenade West on the B7 section of the map.
So far, all four days of the hunt have been on the B and H columns of the map and—with the exception of Friday—have also looked very similar and include repeating callbacks. If you aren’t aware, players are finding these bunkers through daily updates to the website pawntakespawn.com, where a new videotape has appeared each day with coordinates to follow. For example, today’s coordinates looked like this: “WZ-B7-97264138.” The WZ stands for Warzone, B7 is the map coordinates, and the number sequence is what you need to type into a keypad that will unlock the bunker.
On Saturday, we were treated to a bunker that was a single large room with a desk in the middle, an elevator at the back that would not open, and a bust of Vladimir Lenin on the desk. There were also bits and pieces of a larger puzzle scattered around the room. The reason we are bringing up Saturday’s bunker is that today’s looks exactly the same, except the bust of Lenin has been replaced with what looks like encyclopedia books. As usual, the YouTuber PrestigeIsKey and “Ladlings” member Erik Maynard were the first to get a look at what was inside of the bunker.
Once again, enterprising gamers have seen this bunker before and have been referring to it as bunker 1 since its discovery. As with the shack that held half of an RC-XD, this bunker was updated to include more items promoting the larger puzzle for Black Ops. It also held the wheels and explosive charges for the RC-XD, leading some to speculate that the killstreak may be added to Warzone.
Of course, there is much, much more going on with the alternate reality game and the bunker hunt is probably going to be the easiest part of all of this. We still don’t know what all of the numbers within the videos mean, or why they are changing each day. There are also various files that are found inside of the bunkers that are begging to be filled in but haven’t been as of yet.
We are presumably reaching the end of the videotapes and the bunker hunting, which will leave the hard work of cracking the ciphers that were left for us. Once we do that…well, we don’t know. We don’t know if the cracked code will be a message, or if they will be coordinates, or if it’ll lead us to another site. Heck, it might be a phone number to call. The point is, we simply don’t know what will be coming next. We need more clues, which why—regardless of the repetitiveness—we’ll be anxiously awaiting 12pm ET tomorrow for the next update. Hopefully, it takes us somewhere new.
