The costumes are one of the most visually appealing aspects of Super Mario Odyssey. There are numerous outfits for purchase in the game, from sporting a tuxedo to looking like a circus clown. Just recently Nintendo added another costume, one based on the boss enemy, Topper. A few more future costumes may have been data-mined. Twitter User ecumber posted pictures of outfits said to be data-mined from the 1.2.0 update.
Starting in the first picture, in order from left to right, we have outfits based on the Broodal enemies Rango, Hariet, and Spewart, then a racing outfit, a conductor one, a Santa Clause one, and a zombie one. The Broodal ones make sense. Because Topper was chosen to be an outfit, one has to assume that the other Broodal enemies would be turned into outfits as well.
Adding to the legitimacy of these pictures is that back in January, Twitter user Random Talking Bush posted what appeared to be file names from inside of Odyssey. Among those files are the “Batter” and “Satellaview” outfits, which were both added to the game recently. The above pictures also seem to be based on some of the file names, as “Zombie,” “Racer,” “Conductor,” and “Santa” are listed. Meanwhile, Twitter user SciresM back in February posted an updated list of game files, this one including the Broodal enemies. So, ecumber’s pictures appear to be the visual representations behind these file names. Whether or not Nintendo will actually release these outfits remains to be seen. The company has made no official announcement, and probably won’t respond to data-mines. Of course, these costumes are easy to picture appearing in the game, aside from maybe the zombie one. Though, with Odyssey being the first ever main series Mario game to receive a rating of E10+, anything is possible.
Of peculiar note is the 8-bit Mario on top of the Santa outfit. Going back to the game’s files reveals the title, “MarioDot3d,” and the following description: “A hat that takes you back to where it all began.” It appears then that this will be a hat with no corresponding outfit, assuming of course Nintendo releases it. Apparently, the game’s files once listed a Link outfit with the description, “This outfit from another land comes complete with back accessories (sadly nonremovable).” The files were removed from the game as SciresM’s document shows, seemingly indicating that Nintendo decided not to release it.

In addition to posting the pictures, ecumber says a few filters were found in the data-mine. Could Nintendo be adding new filters for Snapshot Mode in the near future?
According to Nintendo, as of March 31, Super Mario Odyssey has sold 10.41 million copies, making it the best-selling Switch game. With numbers like that, Nintendo probably wants to continue supporting the game, and adding more costumes is definitely a nice, simple way of doing so.
