A new HD texture pack for Dark Souls Remastered has just been released, and screenshots reveal that the new content is a real beaut.
The texture pack overhauls a lot of the game’s original textures and thus is quite the hefty upgrade, boasting 6GB-worth of goodies. It is apparently a faithful texture replacement for maps, objects, and enemies, and comprises a selection of both upscaled and handmade textures.
Evelyn Schwab is the modder responsible for creating the texture pack, having used ESRGAN (Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network) technology, along with Photoshop, Quixel Mixer, and Materialize to produce it.
To install the mod you’ll first need to get your hands on DSR’s Texture Packer and Unpacker from Nexus, then you can go ahead and download the DSR 2020 Textures mod itself. DSOG gives a good run-down the next steps:
If you have a fancy, higher-resolution monitor, the changes will pack much more of a punch, but they should still be noticeable at 1080p too, according to Schwab. The pack is also compatible with other overhaul mods and can be used whilst playing online.
Extract both Map archives and the Object/Character archive into the texture override folder of the Texture Packer and Unpacker. Run DSR-TPUP.exe, enter the correct game directory, click Repack and you’ll be ready to go.
