Dark Souls Iii Has Sold A Third Of The Franchise S Copies

Three is key when it comes to game sales, with Dark Souls III outselling both of its prequels.

We found out that From Software’s Dark Souls series is a monumental hit. With over 27 million units sold, Dark Souls now outsells franchises like Gears of War and Devil May Cry. And the best selling Dark Souls game is the third one in the series, mirroring other such franchises as Borderlands and The Witcher.

Publisher Bandai Namco released a statement confirming that Dark Souls III has sold over 10 million units, which is well over a third of the game’s total sales. This makes sense when you stop to think about it: Dark Souls III is the most refined example of a Dark Souls game out there, plus it has better graphics and delightful PvP mechanics that add to the game’s legendary difficulty.

Dark Souls III is also the fastest-selling game in Bandai Namco history as well, selling over 3 million copies in the first two months it was on sale back in 2016. A compilation edition called Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades went on sale in 2017 and combined both expansions to create a complete experience that made it easy for newcomers to dive straight into their first Dark Souls game.

Dark Souls isn’t for everyone, but if you’re gonna start anywhere, you might as well start with the best one, and that’s Dark Souls III.
