The Dallas Fuel managed to overcome the Los Angeles Valiant over the past weekend of the Overwatch League, snapping a 15-match loss streak in the process. Dynamic DPS play and clutch moments helped elevate the Fuel to a much needed victory as they look to use this win as momentum moving forward.
Heading into their match against the Los Angeles Valiant, the Dallas Fuel had’t won a match since the first weekend of Stage Three against the Washington Justice in early June of 2019. It’s been a long time coming (two months short of an entire year) since the Fuel tasted victory, but they managed to overcome the Los Angeles Valiant this past weekend despite playing relatively weak heroes (and seemingly beating their head against a wall) compared to the Valiant’s comp.
Most notably was the stellar Tracer play from Gui-un “Decay” Jang as he navigated around a Valiant Torbjörn set on shutting him down. The less-than-ideal match-up didn’t stop Decay from going absolutely insane in the five-map set against Los Angeles and was the biggest carry for the Fuel’s victory. By farming the tank-line of the Valiant, Decay was able to do an astounding amount of damage and build his Pulse-bomb rather quickly, using Tracer’s ultimate to great effect.
The match was back-and-forth, but the Fuel were able to weather to storm off the backs of some clutch moments including a massive Earth Shatter from Young-jin “Gamsu” Noh in Overtime of Eichenwalde to take the game to map-five.
The Dallas Fuel still have a long way to go in terms of remaining competitive with the top teams in the league, but they have enough talent to do so. Their DPS duo of Decay and Dong-ha “Doha” Kim is one of the best in the league and if they can continue their dominance, the Fuel have a chance against a lot of teams in the league. Dallas won over the weekend playing to their strengths and if they can figure out how to do that consistently, they might have a chance to make some noise.
