The first round of Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 memes had nothing but optimism and cheeky humor. After the botched release of the most anticipated game of the last decade, the joking has taken on a different color. Taking a journey through these memes will tell a story most may want to forget but desperately need to laugh at to stay sane.

Cyberpunk versus The Witcher 3 memes ignore the controversy and differences more often than you might believe. No matter how you feel about either game, it’s possible to laugh at the spaces between the build-up and disappointment. Not everything has to be serious, so take some time to laugh with the internet.

8 Keanu as Geralt In The Bath As Geralt

Where doesn’t Keanu Reeves show up these days? This meme represents the confidence that we all had before the release of Cyberpunk 2077. It wasn’t difficult to imagine CD Projekt Red preparing a hot bath for their next success. While Reeves does a decent job as Johnny, other “breathtaking actors” stand out more in the game.

Unfortunately for everyone who looked forward to the game for eight years, this meme was a better allegory than a Keanu meme that leaves us cry-laughing. The “we made Witcher 3” mentality doomed Cyberpunk with corporate hubris. As disappointing as this was at the tail-end of 2020, we can only hope that publishers will learn from this in the future.

7 Preparing For Cyberpunk After The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 excels as a total escape into a fantasy world worthy of The Lord of the Rings. You couldn’t ride more than a few minutes on Roach without running into something exciting or a surprise side quest.

CD Projekt Red created an enormous amount of goodwill among gamers for their support after the initial release and releasing free DLC for The Witcher 3. You can’t blame anyone before 2020 for believing that going from the modern RPG classic to Cyberpunk would feel as good as this meme.

6 Still Playing The Witcher 3

Considering the immense size of The Witcher 3 and the dwindling free time of adult life, most people probably haven’t finished the RPG yet. Those who didn’t dive into Cyberpunk 2077 at launch and continue to play Geralt’s most recent adventure live in a state of blissful ignorance.

While some of us still felt the sting of a terrible release from a beloved developer, others took Spider-Man’s route and stayed out of the ordeal. For anyone who still wants to have warm and fuzzy feelings about CD Projekt Red, it’s probably best to play The Witcher 3, go to the pub, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.

5 What Could Have Been

The announcement that Keanu Reeves would play a central role in Cyberpunk blew minds in the best way possible. The actor kids thought was a “Fortnite Guy” joining one of the most anticipated games from a “good guy” developer seemed like a match made in heaven.

You can feel however you want about Keanu’s performance now, but it’s undeniable that everyone imagined John Wick rolling into a cyberpunk world. Unfortunately, being the team that made The Witcher 3 doesn’t make you immune from releasing a broken product.

4 Ciri As Johnny In Cyberpunk

Having Ciri follow you around in Cyberpunk is a nice fantasy for Witcher fans, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this meme exists. Having her wake you up in a crossover where you’re off to kill the general of the Wild Hunt is a fantastic idea. Even if Ciri memes make us think even The Witcher 3 didn’t make sense, this one works beautifully.

The sad truth is that Cyberpunk didn’t deliver on the spirit behind this meme. Fans around the world expected a Witcher 3 quality experience at launch. CD Projekt Red made a big show out of not releasing an unfinished product before launching a disaster worthy of 2020.

3 The Witcher 2077

Putting Geralt into any picture could raise its worth, but imagining him in Night City is a pleasant thought. If he brought the quality of the Witcher games with him, that’s all the better for everyone. Whether he’s in a game, a show, or a gamer fantasy it’s always good to see him in action.

How you level Geralt and which mutations you choose can completely change how you play The Witcher 3. Players imagined having an even greater sense of freedom with the level of progression in Cyberpunk. That thought is worth fantasizing about, but the sad reality is that CD Projekt Red didn’t even deliver on essential promises.

2 Cyberpunk 2077 Takes Its Toll

It’s easy to forget that CD Projekt Red started as a plucky Polish developer with big ideas and even bigger dreams. Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 represent the possibilities beginning to become a reality. The Witcher 3 undoubtedly took its toll on everyone, but it’s beyond doubt that it’s time to stop worshiping CD Projekt Red.

This meme also represents the game developer’s fall from grace in four images. It’s easy to look like the CEO in the third picture after getting lost in The Witcher 3’s world for hours. The sad news is that most of the world’s reaction looks much more like the Cyberpunk 2077 panel.

1 If Only The Glitches Were This Funny

While Roach isn’t the most reliable horse in video game history, he’s one of the most beloved. Even glitches where he pops up at inappropriate times or on top of objects make gamers smile. When V joined the CD Projekt Red family, a meme like this felt just right.

While this meme existed in good fun before Cyberpunk’s release, it proved itself to be prophetic. Even with the release of patches, more game-breaking bugs rear their ugly heads. While some of these memes will make you sad, The Witcher 3 glitch memes continue to make us laugh until we cry.
