For those itching for a mix of horror and cyberpunk in their games, then Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story definitely fits that bill. The upcoming 2.5D game will be ready to launch this coming week on Steam for fans of both genres.

Inspired by horror franchises Clock Tower and Fatal Frame, the story of Sense takes place in 2083 Neo Hong Kong. Players take control of Mei-Lin Mak, a young woman solving the mystery of a family curse that has plagued her. As she gets trapped within the horrors of the Chong Sing apartment complex, the walls hold secrets that force her to question her reality as she pieces together stories of 14 lost souls. The mystery blends Chinese folklore with a futuristic setting. Players will be searching through every corner of the game in order to progress as they interact with other characters to solve the game’s mystery.

Publisher Top Hat Studios unveiled a new PC launch trailer that focuses on the main character and the many environments that players will interact with. Through much of the game, players will solve puzzles and encounter items that will help push the story forward. Since there are no checkpoints, players will have to be careful, as a single mistake could be fatal. Sense has lore that runs deep as it reveals more details about Neo Hong Kong and the world that the game inhabits.

Launched through Kickstarter, Top Hat Studios and developer Suzaku hope to bring players back to the origins of the horror genre with their mix of storytelling, pacing, and atmosphere. Instead of cheap jump scares and top action, the game digs deep into the fears that we face when we aren’t looking. With the use of her cybernetic eyes, players can see the ghosts that Mak sees in the apartment complex as well as zoom into objects for clues. Based on what we saw on the trailer, there’s so much to explore in the game.

The demo of Sense is free to try on Steam before the game launches on August 25, followed by other platforms like PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS Vita this fall.
