Big news for Cyberpunk fans and CD Projekt Red. According to Axios Gaming’s Stephen Totilo, Sony and CDPR have reached an agreement that will allow Cyberpunk 2077 to be re-listed on the PlayStation Store once again. Expect Cyberpunk to be available for purchase for the second time on PlayStation on June 21.
This comes amidst reports that PlayStation users that had previously purchased Cyberpunk were unexpectedly able to re-download the game today. No new purchases were possible, however, as the PlayStation Store still officially listed Cyberpunk as “coming soon,” along with the option to wishlist the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 was delisted shortly after releasing last December when it turned out the game wasn’t quite ready for prime time. There were so many bugs and glitches on both the PS4 and PS5, and so many players were demanding refunds because of it, that Sony delisted Cyberpunk 2077 just a week after release, with PlayStation head Jim Ryan recently stating that difficult decision was made “in the interest of the community.”
Since then, CDPR and Sony have been engaged in private negotiations to get Cyberpunk back up for sale. The Polish developer has already released several patches that squashed hundreds of bugs and greatly improved performance on console, however, PS5 owners will still have to wait for the next-gen upgrade to unlock Cyberpunk 2077’s full potential.
Sony said that CDPR had to meet certain metrics in order to get Cyberpunk back onto the PSN storefront, although we don’t know what those metrics were. But it looks like perfect performance on the PS4 wasn’t one of them.
In a statement to IGN, CDPR said that Cyberpunk still suffers from “performance issues” on the PS4, but that the company “continues to improve stability across all platforms.” For best results, CDPR recommends only playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 Pro or PS5.
