Originally scheduled for June 11, Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City Wire event was supposed to offer more information and details on the upcoming game. However, given the current state of affairs in the United States, the official Twitter account for the game has made the decision to push the event until June 25.

In a statement published on Twitter, Cyberpunk 2077 announced the postponement of the event and stated that “important discussions” are happening in the world right now and they need to be heard. Additionally, the statement also says how the team is against “racism, intolerance and violence. Black Lives Matter.”

As one might have expected, some Twitter users did not appreciate the event’s postponement. Upon making the announcement, some of the Twitter users criticized the decision by questioning how the postponement will put a stop to the social issues in regards to racism and where was all the support during the Hong Kong protests. Other comments accused Cyberpunk 2077 of pulling off a “PR stunt” because other companies are doing something similar. For the most part however, the majority of the other Twitter comments showed understanding and support.

Cyberpunk 2077’s decision to postpone its event follows the same decision made by many other companies and organizations. For example, Sony’s PS5 event that was supposed to happen on June 4 has been postponed until further notice. Similarly, EA Sports has also made the decision to postpone its Madden NFL 21 event until further notice so that people in can use the time as an opportunity to focus on the protests.

As far as the Night City Wire event goes, no one really knows what the event is supposed to be about aside from offering more information about Cyberpunk 2077. For instance, there is a good chance that the event will talk about DLC, or touch upon gameplay mechanics, story, and progression.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on September 17, 2020, for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
