Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED responds to a fan question about whether the game has pre-order bonuses. The developer also reveals if those that who have purchased the Cyberpunk 2077 collector’s edition will get special content in the game.
CD Projekt RED’s sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for pre-order, but the developer explains that those who have pre-ordered won’t get special treatment. Many other games come with exclusive cosmetics, exclusive missions, or several days of early access to the game as a pre-order bonus but CD Projekt RED says that “we don’t do that.”
Talking to a fan using the Direct Messages tool on Twitter, the official Cyberpunk 2077 account said that “every person who buys the game will get exactly the same in-game content”. It doesn’t matter if the Cyberpunk 2077 player pre-ordered the game, purchased it on launch day, or bought it two years after its release date, everyone will have access to the same content.
For players who want to 100% Cyberpunk 2077 and see everything that the game has to offer, this will be a big win. The game has huge amounts of content and variations of missions, from the player character’s lifepath to the different dialogue options players can choose. It would be hard enough for completionist players to get all gameplay without CD Projekt RED locking some of it behind pre-order bonuses and special editions.
The messages have also led some people on Reddit, where screenshots of the messages were posted, to call CD Projekt RED “the most consumer-friendly” games developer. The Cyberpunk 2077 developer has also spoken against “greedy” games as a service business practices. That may not have won CD Projekt RED any friends among game developers who use microtransactions and loot boxes to take millions of dollars of revenue, but it seems to have been taken well by the company’s fans.
The upcoming RPG may not gate content behind pre-orders, but that doesn’t mean that all content will be available for free. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it would like to release expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, which is something that it also did with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Some DLC for that game was released for free but expansions did cost money. Still, however, any paid for content would be available to all owners of Cyberpunk 2077 whether they’ve pre-ordered or not.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
