Riding on the back of Geoff Keighley’s Cuphead announcement, Studio MDHR also revealed that a “free special update” will be coming to the indie favorite on Xbox One. Cuphead’s arrival to PS4 was announced yesterday as part of the Summer Game Fest.
The secret is now out about Cuphead and his brother Mugman continuing to repay their debt to the Devil on the PS4. Gaming mogul Geoff Keighley had teased the announcement yesterday that prompted several gamers to guess what was coming. The news broke with an apt, but nonetheless creepy, stop motion trailer of Cuphead puppets making a song and dance over the game’s PlayStation debut. However, Sony is now sharing the spotlight with Microsoft, as developers Studio MDHR also uncovered its plans to release a free special update for Cuphead fans on Xbox.
As Xbox was Cuphead’s first platform, the developers wanted to give something back to the game’s earliest followers. Currently in development, the update will include a digital art gallery, behind-the-scenes commentary, and a playable copy of the addictive soundtrack. Studio MDHR have said that the update is in “the early planning stages,” which is understandable while work on ‘The Delicious Last Course’ DLC gets finalized. News of the update obviously sat well with Xbox players, but the sentiment to celebrate Cuphead’s first platform and initial audience is admirable.
Based on the rubber hose animations from the 1930’s, Cuphead’s unique style has earned itself a loyal following of gamers who have praised its difficulty as the titular character chases the Devil. The run-and-gun indie has become a treasure within the gaming community, as much as Disney’s animation style is still loved to this day. Debuting as an Xbox exclusive, Cuphead has since received ports for Steam and the Nintendo Switch, with the PS4 now making it a full house. The Delicious Last Course DLC was announced at E3 2018, due to release last year, but it was was delayed until 202o to alleviate pressure on the development team.
Cuphead is a stand out game within the market, boasting its unique animation style, addictive gameplay, and thrilling throwback to the classic animations of Fleischer Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios. PS4 owners can now join in on the fun, and the long-term fans can look forward to that special update.
