The fight against cheaters in competitive games like CS:GO is a never ending struggle, and now popular pen tester 2eggs has been banned after crossing the line themselves into cheating. 2eggs has worked to create a following online as a content creator of security related work for the game but has recently been called out as a fraud and VAC Banned on Steam, indicating the use of malicious software warranting the most severe of disciplinary actions on their account.

While 2eggs claimed to be working against hackers, content creator NoobDoggy levied accusations against him that his work was in fact that of someone else but edited slightly to seem original and distinct. The VAC Ban went out shortly after, although 2eggs immediately sought to communicate that this was in fact a mistake and used screenshots of an email between himself and CS:GO develop Ido Magal to support his claim.

This turned out to be a lie created by altering the images of their communication, as Magal posted their original emails online and confirmed the 2eggs had his VAC Ban applied correctly. Now exposed, there was no doubt that 2eggs had been deceiving the community. With no recourse left, 2eggs posted a statement on his Steam profile with an apology to the community. Since then, all associated social media profiles have been disabled as well.

Cheating in CS:GO is not a new problem, but a longstanding one that Valve has worked tirelessly and with several different strategies to counteract. This is even more true since the game went free to play, as it has never been easier to acquire an account that can play competitive games after meeting certain conditions.

In some cases, cheating occurs in high-stakes scenarios, such as in Fortnite last year during an online qualifying event for the World Cup event, where $3 million in prizes were on the line. However, in the case of 2eggs there was no competitive event or ranking to speak of, and instead it seems that the persona of working as a vigilante against cheaters was little more than a façade that drew in followers on social media. Perhaps that was the end goal for 2eggs, since there did not seem to be any other motivation to engage in this type of behavior in such a public way.

2eggs concluded his statement on Steam by stating that this is likely the end of their time with CS:GO, but time will tell if this is true or not.
