A Crytek engineer says that the PS5 is the better console while the Xbox Series X will have “bottlenecks.”

On paper, the Xbox Series X is the superior machine. It has a faster CPU clock speed and a more powerful GPU, with 12 TFLOPs of computation power compared to the PS5’s 10.3 TFLOPs.

However, TFLOPs aren’t everything. Crytek graphics engineer Ali Salehi recently sat down for an interview with Persian gaming site Vigiato to discuss the differences between programming for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, and of the two next-gen consoles, he says he prefers the PS5.

“The developers are saying PS5 is the easiest console they have ever coded on to reach its peak performance”, said Salehi. “Software-wise, coding for PS5 is extremely simple and has so many abilities that make the [developers] so free. In total, I can say PS5 is a better console.”

Salehi further explained that the PS5 is a finely tuned and efficient machine while the XBX has several bottlenecks. The first is the operating system, where the XBX has to make do with a custom version of Windows while the PS5 has its own operating system designed specifically for the hardware that it’s installed on.

Further, Salehi contends that the Xbox Series X can only reach 12 TFLOPs under ideal circumstances, but the PS5 can hit 10.3 TFLOPs far more reliably.
