As many avid fans of the popular first-person shooter franchise will no doubt be aware, the Twitter account for Crysis re-emerged recently after its lengthy four-year hiatus. This naturally led many to assume that a new Crysis game was on the cards, especially with the franchise not seeing another entry since its release of Crysis 3 back in early 2013. It seems the speculation was correct, with a new leak confirming that the series will be returning very soon.

Twitter user RobotBrush, while digging through the franchise’s official website, managed to uncover a splash page and some official details that confirm a “Crysis Remastered” will be coming to modern consoles in the near future. Not only will the spruced-up version of the iconic first game in the franchise be hitting the likes of PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but in a surprising move, it’ll also be making its way to the Nintendo Switch, marking the franchise’s debut on a Nintendo console.

The assets in question contain a number of interesting details about Crysis Remastered, with a description of the game reading as follows: “Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE’s native hardware- and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – for the very first time – Nintendo Switch.” The description and other references to the upcoming remaster have since disappeared from the website entirely, leading many to believe that a proper announcement will be coming very soon.

Evidently, this is going to be a stunning return to form for the currently dormant franchise, especially as the original Crysis is remembered by many as the best entry in the series and one that still holds up today. With the title originally being held as a benchmark for what a player’s PC could achieve, hopefully, this remastered edition can look to reclaim that reputation. With many also believing that Crysis’ return could be leading to a potential fourth game down the line, it makes sense that a high-quality remaster of the first game could get many back in the mood to play a fully-fledged sequel to the title in the coming years.

It seems Crysis Remastered will be releasing in the right market regardless, with remakes and remasters currently enjoying a boom in the gaming space. Resident Evil 3 has been incredibly popular with fans, with rumors stating a remake of the fourth game is underway, while the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has wowed many players with its incredibly authentic return to screens. Hopefully, Crysis will find the same success when this leaked remaster eventually hits consoles.

Crysis Remastered is in development for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
