The strategy game Crusader Kings 2 is luring us back to the Middle Ages with a new subscription service attached to its downloadable content. Swedish developer Paradox Interactive announced the service as a way of being more accessible to new players.
Posting on its forums, Paradox introduced the new subscription service after apologizing for a bout of radio silence. The subscription is designed to offer a single, monthly purchase in order to receive full access to every piece of Crusader Kings 2 content available. Fans would only need to fork out $4.99 per month in order to have everything at their fingertips, with the option to purchase content and expansions separately.
Paradox highlighted the amount of content up for grabs within the subscription service, which includes all 13 expansions - including the Norse of The Old Gods, Rajas of India, and Conclave - 12 unit packs, 14 music packs, 10 portrait packs, the Game Converter, The Crusader Kings 2 Ruler Designer, and much more. The series’ sequel is currently available for free on Steam, which makes this small subscription an attractive deal for veteran players and newcomers. The developer also mentioned at the end of the post that it was looking into providing subscription services to other games, which could include Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron.
Paradox explained how newcomers may feel overwhelmed by the amount of additional content up for grabs. Therefore, offering everything in one subscription might ease their introduction to the game. Crusader Kings 2 has around $300 worth of additional content attached to the free base game, and this subscription saves everybody from deliberating over which content is best to purchase. The developer also confirmed that the subscription service was not the only way to get access to DLCs or future content. It was noted that all additional content, both past and future, would remain available to be bought separately.
The franchise’s current title Crusader Kings 3 continues the game’s quirky side and Paradox has released some statistics to expose what fans have been up to. In addition to accumulating 25 million hours of gameplay, it was also revealed that fans performed 18 million murders, with one Pope meeting a cannibalistic end.
