Hello, Critters! This week’s episode of Critical Role was full of laughter and hijinks as usual. With moments like a Back to the Future ad, experiencing old memories, Yasha discovering something new about herself, and something about a boat, episode 103 was full of a ton of interesting and fun moments.

“This Is Heavy, Doc”

Sam’s ad spots never disappoint, but this week’s was especially clever. Sam recruited Liam to be the Doc to his Marty in a Back to the Future inspired ad for a dice game from Ravensburger based on the same movie. Sam as Marty recounted his experience about traveling to the year 2020, and hilarity ensued.

Mighty Nein Moments

Caleb came up with an ingenious plan, and he cast Programmed Image with a bit of powdered jade to remind the Mighty Nein of their memories, as the island of Rumblecusp seems to wipe them the longer they stay on it. It is a precious moment, as the floating images of their past helped remind the party of who they are, where they came from, and the memories they shared together.

A Moment For Vilya

As Vilya watched these memories of the Mighty Nein float around, she asked a simple request of Caleb; for him to show a younger version of her walking with a half-elven man with light hair and a young girl with red hair (a call-back to Marisha’s Campaign 1 character, Keyleth). Tears started emerging around the table as the cast sympathized with Vilya and remembered Keyleth’s past in this touching moment.

Yasha’s Wings

After Yasha got catapulted 180 feet up in the air by a water geyser (yeah, that happened), she summoned her Aasimar wings. Instead of the usual way her wings manifest themselves, with black cloth characteristic of a fallen Aasimar, she noticed that they had begun to sprout new feathers, much like she had experienced in her dreams up until that point. As cool as that moment was, unfortunately, her wings were not strong enough yet to help her land gracefully on the cliff from the momentum of the geyser.

What Boat?

The Mighty Nein determined that the best way to protect themselves from the island’s memory-wiping influence was to hop on their ship and sail away for the night. Jester contacted Orly, their navigator, whom they had previously left the ship and the crew with. Only one problem: there was no more boat.

This sends the Mighty Nein into a panic; if they do not have a ship anymore, how were they supposed to leave the island? They feared they might be stuck there forever and eventually have their memories wiped by Vokodo and the island. They realized that no matter what, they had to destroy Vokodo. Jester sent another message to Orly to figure out what happened to their ship:

Of course, it was the dragon turtle.
