Hello, Critters! In this week’s episode of Critical Role, the cast gets more into the swing of things in their second week back after the hiatus. Campaign 2, Episode 101 is full of self-advertising, hilarious failures, an epic performance, and humorous NPC interactions as the Mighty Nein explores an island with a mysterious power.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Campaign 2, Episode 101 of Critical Role!
Sam Advertises Himself
In place of when he would usually advertise for a sponsor before the episode starts, Sam decided to take it upon himself to plug his own advertising skills. Then he wrote a song about a kale chip… with a whale… it’s pretty wild, to say the least.
Life Is Tough
The Mighty Nein seem to have residual dislike for one of their ship’s crewmates, Marius. When Fjord mentioned that Marius hasn’t even killed anyone yet, Caduceus made the argument that there are plenty of people he knows who haven’t killed anyone. However, when finding that he can’t even name one person who fits this category, he had a small existential crisis, which led the Mighty Nein to wonder if they really are good people after all.
Hey Kid, What’s The Purpose of Life?
People are acting very strangely in the village on the island of Rumblecusp. Beau decided to investigate by asking a child from the village, a boy named Terese, what his role is in the village and what his parents bring to the island’s “deity” Vokodo. She decided to ask this boy, who looks around six or seven years old, what the village’s overarching goal was as well. This led to many laughs from the cast, and reminded the audience how humorous Beau’s interactions with children can be.
Yasha’s Performance
On the Mighty Nein’s first night staying in this village, Yasha offered to entertain the people showing them hospitality. With help from Caleb (who handled the atmospheric lighting), Yasha played a sad but calming solo on her harp in this truly amazing performance.
Jester Explains What A Convention Is
One of the best moments of this episode was when Jester attempted to explain what a convention was to the Vo people on Rumblecusp. Since the whole reason the Mighty Nein came to this island was to host a giant party for all of the Traveler’s followers, Jester needs to make sure that no other island people or their “deity” will interfere with their plans. We’re not entirely sure that conventions exist as a conception in Exandria, but for this humorous moment, we’ll let it slide.
“Help, It’s… Again”
Unfortunately, Caduceus got the short end of the stick this week, finding himself slipping into multiple sticky situations due to bad rolls. After his second time slipping into the tar-like substance and about to become a creature’s next meal, he uttered in the most defeated voice, “help, it’s… again.” In addition to it being a great shirt slogan, the cast agreed that the statement summed up the year 2020 pretty well so far.
You can watch Critical Role every Thursday night at 7pm PDT on their Twitch channel.
