After 26 launch characters and a handful of DLC packs, it looks like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is finally letting you play as a checkpoint crate. Yes, really. Thanks to a free content update released on March 26, you can now race against Crash and friends as an iron crate.
If you want to unlock this exciting new racer, you’ll need to smash various Beenox crates spread out across different tracks. Supposedly, you can even smash these crates without completing the races themselves, making things a bit easier.
The game has also added Baby Cortex, Baby N. Trophy, and the Lab Assistant to the Pit Stop Store, although we’re not really sure why Baby Cortex still has a goatee. Perhaps evil geniuses develop facial hair earlier than others.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled players can also participate in brand new modes, including Ghost Hunt, time trials, Golden Wumpa Hunt, and Wumpa Challenges. Finally, Rilla Roo has received a new character model, although the game also allows players to keep the original as well, if you aren’t a fan.
Overall, we have to give developer, Beenox, some props for continually updating Crash Team Racing, adding new and exciting content, and also for having a solid sense of humor. We didn’t know we wanted to race as a checkpoint box, but now there’s not a shadow of a doubt that we do. See you on the track, racers!
