Screenshots of Crash Bandicoot 4 have been leaked following the accidental reveal by a ratings board this week, and they include the game’s release date.

New life was breathed into the Crash Bandicoot franchise in 2017 thanks to Vicarious Visions. The developer remastered and re-released the game’s original trilogy. The three games the marsupial is still most well known for after all these years. The N’Sane Trilogy has sold more than 10 million copies since then, and a Crash Team Racing remaster released since then has also performed well.

So well that it seems as if the franchise reboot is set to continue. Thanks to information published a little early this week, it has been revealed that a sequel to the original trilogy is coming to Xbox One and PS4. An accidental leak by the Taiwanese Ratings Board revealed that the game will be called Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and appears to follow on from Crash Bandicoot: Warped.

The sequel is being developed by Toys For Bob rather than Vicarious Visions. Toys For Bob is the studio responsible for the Switch port of the N’Sane Trilogy. Strange that there is no mention of Crash 4 coming to the Nintendo console, at least not according to the leaks. Toys For Bob has confirmed the game’s existence following the leak and revealed that there will be an official announcement this coming Monday (June 22, 2020).

Screenshots of Crash 4 have since been discovered and published via ResetEra. They show the bandicoot using a jet pack, a shot of Neo Cortex, and also one of a Quantum Mask, perhaps the one Crash finds in a cave which will spark the new game’s main storyline. The final screenshot shows off when the game is slated for release, and as expected, Crash fans won’t have long to wait.

If the screenshots are to be believed, and they do appear to be legit, then Crash 4 will hit PS4 and Xbox One on October 9, 2020. Presumably just before the next generation of console is ushered in. There’s no word yet on whether the new Crash game will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X, or whether it will be one of the final games to be released exclusively on the current generation of console.
