Bandai Toys has announced the cooking battle action game Tabe-O-Ja for the Nintendo Switch coming out this winter in Japan.

Tabe-O-Ja is a cooking action game where fights are settled in the kitchen. By cooking cuisines from across the world using your Joy-Cons, you will summon the Tabe-Gami that resides in each dish to do your fighting for you. You can form an original team or battle against rival chefs and their Tabe-Gami; it’s all in the name of cooking up the world’s strongest dish.

After cooking each meal, you find a new Tabe-Gami, so you will need to master the many recipes and cooking tactics if you want to stand a chance. The Joy-Con cooking actions required to summon a Tabe-Gami change from meal to meal and include stir-fry, stacking ingredients, simmer, and more. Check out the trailer below:

While the food you cook looks to be live-action, the Tabe-Gami sort of look like Pokémon if Pokémon were also food - think Vanillite or Cherubi.

For example, in the trailer, you flip a hamburger using the Joy-Con and summon a cat-burger Tabe-Gami that is reminiscent of Meowth in a burger costume. Prepare some sushi, and you’ve got a dragon-sushi hybrid, prepare some pizza, and you have a dino-pizza monster - the list goes on.

Each Tabe-Gami is themed after the dish that summons them, and their fighting ability is determined by their base stats and can be improved based on how well you did during the cooking process.

Tabe-O-Ja will feature a lineup of over 69 unique characters at launch, and if the game takes off, there will no doubt be DLC offered to supplement your roster. You will be able to fight against both rival NPC and human chefs to test your might and achieve victory by destroying your opponent’s kitchen.

As of now, there hasn’t been a date set for release in the West, but if the demand is high enough, it’s always possible. So for those of you who have been wishing to summon monsters via food, (where my Scannerz fans at?), than Bandi is cooking up the game you’ve been looking for.
