Developer Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control’s first DLC expansion, The Foundation, will be releasing on March 26, 2020. A short teaser released on Twitter doesn’t clue us in to what the plot details are, but this pack will see the return of protagonist Jesse Faden. She’ll be continuing her search for Helen Marshall, the head of operation for the Federal Bureau of Control.
What’s a little unclear is if The Foundation is going to be a timed PS4 exclusive or not. The trailer doesn’t mention any platforms, but during its initial reveal last year, Remedy stated the first Control DLC pack would be available on Sony’s platform first. Since two smaller packs have already released and weren’t held back, that implies The Foundation is only coming to PS4 this month.
If it’s any consolation, the official Xbox Twitter account responded to Remedy’s posting of the trailer. That seems to imply the content isn’t being held back but isn’t exactly an official statement. Without any confirmation, we’re just left to speculate.
It’s not the end of the world, but it would be nice for Remedy to clarify this. A lot of players are getting excited to jump back into the world of Control and it would be a huge bummer to find out at the last minute that this content won’t be on PC and Xbox One until later.
If that does end up being the case, at least players on non-Sony platforms will know to avoid social media for a bit. Most Remedy games are very dependent on their integration of gameplay and plot, so having twists spoiled could be detrimental to a lot of the build-up. Then again, Control is supposed to have something of a convoluted plot anyway, so knowing a surprise twist might help you enjoy this DLC more.
Control was highly regarded when it released last year. Coming out among a bunch of other heavy hitters, many saw the game as Remedy’s best work to date. With the storied history of the studio, that’s a pretty big compliment. It seems like these DLC packs will continue to push Control into people’s minds as the best Remedy has to offer.
