Relic just seems to love giving away Company of Heroes 2. It’s not a terrible idea, given the fact the game is almost eight years old, and if players actually like it then they can pay for the DLC which is also heavily discounted along with the base game being given away for free.

This weekend, you can download Company of Heroes 2 for free on Steam and keep it forever. You’ll also get the Ardennes Assault DLC along with it as a little added bonus, which added a Western Front campaign to the base game’s Eastern Front focus.

For those unaware, Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy game where players take the role of Russian commanders during the height of World War 2. Players gain resources by capturing control points and then use those resources to call up additional troops. Because it focuses on the Eastern Front, the weather can play a large role in determining success, and commanders will have to manage their soldiers carefully lest they die of frostbite before they can face the enemy.

The game has a solid 80% score on Metacritic, although the user score is vastly lower because of review bombings by Russian gamers who didn’t particularly agree with Russia’s depiction in-game.

Company of Heroes 2 recently received a 64-bit update that vastly improves its performance and stability on modern hardware, and it also enabled crossplay between Steam and Microsoft Store/Xbox Gamepass users. And if you like it, every single bit of DLC for the game is 75% off between now and June 3. You can even get the Case Blue DLC for free if you sign up to Relic’s newsletter.

If you’re more of a mobile gamer, Company of Heroes recently got ported over to the iPad with touchscreen controls that work surprisingly well. It’s not free, though it is fairly cheap.
