Codecademy is offering free coding classes to those who have faced furlough or unemployment during quarantine.

Codecademy is an online training program for coding students of all levels. The interactive classroom offers classes in a dozen coding languages including Ruby, Java and JavaScript, Python, and Sass. Codecademy has been around since 2011 and has millions of users.

The program is operating off of a one to five model, for every person who signs up for Codecademy Pro, five free memberships will be offered to the furloughed or unemployed. The program has been available since the end of April and has already met its goal of 100,000 free classes offered. This programming program is not all Codecademy has done by way of COVID-19 relief. Before this unemployment initiative went into place, the coding program has also offered 10,000 Codecademy Pro plans to students who had their educations impacted by school closures. They exceeded that goal ten times over and were able to award a total of 100,000 scholarships for students around the world.

Free coding classes have been offered to 100,000 people who have lost their jobs during the pandemic. While Codecademy offers a free program it is rather limited, offering only basic courses. The Pro plan supplies students with courses, both basic and exclusive to the Pro plan, projects, and access to comprehensive guidance. The Pro plan is ordinarily available for $20 a month but those lucky 100,000 students have received it for free for three months. With the amount of content available through the Codecademy Pro plan this is a great spring board for people who are just beginning and a wonderful option for those will a bit of knowledge on the subject.

The hope behind this classroom stimulus package of sorts is to give people access to skills training during a tumultuous time for the world. By giving away complete training in a trade that is growing and will almost certainly continue to grow in the future, Codecademy is helping people to plan for their futures post-pandemic. Throughout this time Codecademy has used its virtual classroom as a way to keep people optimistic and give them structure that their lives may have been lacking since being sent home from work and school.
