Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 has officially launched on August 5th, and it appears that at long last, sniper rifles have left the Gulag. With all of the excitement surrounding Season 5 – including the roof of the stadium getting blown open, the arrival of Shadow Company, a new mini warzone mode, vertical zip lines, and even a train – news about the weapon loadouts in the Gulag has understandably been out of the headlines. If we all can remember even a week ago, fan support for the all sniper Gulag was unusually low.

Heading into the Warzone, however, reveals a fantastic mess that is sure to drum up excitement for the Gulag change, as seen below. It appears up to half the players per round are so excited about the stadium – they are collectively storming the place, consequently filling up the Gulag at a rapid rate.

This carnage is actually joyful to see in-game, and will make most players giddy as they see the brilliant streaks of red cascading towards the stadium. On the matter, there are some unusual reports of some extra bright flashes of red and blue contrails (The bright red can be seen in the video above although not any blue upon first review). Firing begins almost immediately, with waves upon waves of new players piling in, on, and around the stadium for the first couple of minutes. Quickly, the number of players thins out leaving a few lucky ones with proper arms, though most are rocking the default starting pistol. Many players find themselves in crowded Gulags, and armed with a shiny… 1911 pistol!

While insignificant in the greater magnitude of Season 5 changes for Warzone, the sniper Gulag frustrated players daily, with countless Twitter and Subreddit feeds dedicated to complaining about it. To summarize, many love the sniper rifles themselves, but disliked the application in tight quarters thanks to slow ADS and rampant complaints of advantages of controller aim assist vs. computer field of view settings.

Like most popular and unpopular game modes, it appears the sniper gulag may ultimately be better as a memory. With the launch of Season 5, however, it feels great to be holding anything but an AX-50 when my nemesis is within 20 feet of me amongst the dirty blown up showers.
