The release of Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, has been mainly centered around the game’s battle royale mode. However, the title also has another mode, Plunder, which is the unsung hero of Warzone. Here’s everything you need to know about the unique mode that you have to try.
The Basics
Plunder is a 102 player match, with participants being broken into 34 squads of three. While it has a battle royale feel, players have unlimited lives and instead are fighting to earn and keep $1 million of in-game cash.
This cash can be earned by completing contracts, looting or plundering from other dead players. You can also collect cash drops from planes. Listen carefully to alerts and keep an eye on your Tac Map for the locations of drops. Contracts are mainly found in Supply Boxes.
If you die, you lose your money and respawn after a 15-second cooldown timer. If no one has $1 million within 30 minutes the squad holding the most at the time will win.
Contracts
There are three types of contracts, Bounty, Recon, and Scavenger. Only 1 contract per squad can be active at once.
A bounty contract will require you to find and eliminate an enemy player. The Tac Map will give a rough location and the rest is up to you. Once they are gone the timer is extended a little and the next squad member named. Take out the whole squad to reap the rewards.
A scavenger contract will lead you to a trail of three loot boxes, each one will contain loot you can keep, increasing in value.
Finally, a recon contract will require your team to stand around and defend a comms station while you upload data. A flare will mark out your location once the contract starts, making it akin to guarding a flag in Capture The Flag style games.
Collecting And Keeping Cash
In order to try and build up a safe stash of money, players have two options open to them to secure their cash. The first is to get to a helipad and call a helicopter to arrive and collect it. These collection points are marked on the map by piggy bank icons so this is a risky move, especially since enemy players will be notified that you called for a chopper. The advantage is that the helicopter can hold as much as you want and once it’s taken off your cash is safe.
The second option is to purchase an extraction balloon. This is much safer, since it can be used anywhere, but it is expensive so you’ll need to collect more cash. You’ll also only be able to deposit up to $150,000 in it. Sometimes you can get lucky and find one in a chest or lying around the place. Otherwise, you need to purchase one from a Buy Station.
