The tabletop game Escape: The Curse of the Temple is back with a new adventure, Escape Write & Roll. The latest installment of the Queen Games Indiana Jones-esque game is currently on Kickstarter.
Escape: The Curse of the Temple is 2012 cooperative tabletop game that combines adventure, music, dice, and teamwork. The objective of Escape: The Curse of the Temple is for players to make their way through the temple with the use of magic gems that must be collected along the way—but with a twist. The teams of explorers are up against the clock, the mission needs to be finished within ten minutes, a time limit which is scored by a soundtrack that features countdown cues to keep things moving. Escape has three expansion packs, Illusions, Quest, and Traps each with either new characters, chambers, or booby-trap.
This version of Escape has all of the fast-paced fun of its original board but only requires a pen and pencil. Players must still venture through the temple using nothing but their dice and effective communication skills, but now they face an ever-changing board. Escape Write & Roll is made up of 200 temple sheets, which players must navigate together in order to collect their treasure and make their way out, marking things off as they go. This time around, players each have their own temple to explore and must field additional hurdles, like coordinating with other players on their own board, to maximize their gem collecting.
Because this is a Kickstarter additional perks are offered for pledging. $20 will purchase Escape Write & Roll with four Dice Shrine Chambers while $60 will get contributors the game itself along with the base game of Escape. The project has been completely funded and perks will be distributed in November of 2020, but backing is still possible until June 1st!
