Cloud9 has released their entire Dota 2 lineup after just three months, the American esports organization announced yesterday. The organization first signed the team in January, and fielded a roster for just four events before exiting the game altogether.

On January 29th, 2020, Cloud9 announced their return to professional Dota 2 after two years away from the scene. The lineup featured well-known names Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen and Johan “pieliedie” Åström. The team played in the ESL One Los Angeles Southeast Asia Open Qualifier, placing 5-8th after being eliminated by Motivade.Trust Gaming.

In early March, MISERY and pieliedie were joined by Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao, Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard, and Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu. In the following months, Cloud9 finished last at DOTA Summit 12, 3-4th at WePlay! WeSave! Charity Play, and 5-6th at the BTS: Pro Series Americas. Now after just three months, and less than two with the full roster, the organization is pulling away from Dota 2 entirely.

Cloud9 has had multiple ventures in competitive Dota, none of which have found lasting success. The organization picked up their first roster in 2014, which featured both pieliedie and EternaLEnVy. That team was released in 2015, and the organization picked up and released two different rosters in 2017.

EternaLEnVy and Sneyking have been linked with Business Associates, while the other members still search for a home. Cloud9 has left competitive Dota 2, and does not appear to be signing another roster.
