Cloud9 has completed its competitive VALORANT lineup with the signing of former professional CS:GO player Daniel “vice” Kim, the North American esports organization announced today. Vice has previously competed with Cloud9, representing their Counter-Strike division in 2019. The 24-year-old now rejoins the organization as the final member of its professional VALORANT roster.
Daniel “vice” Kim kickstarted his competitive CS:GO career in 2015, briefly playing for Denial Esports and later joining Team SoloMid. Vice bounced around teams before landing with Rogue in 2017. While competing under the Rogue banner, vice reached the semi-finals of the iBUYPOWER Spring 2018 Invitational and the grand finals of DreamHack Open Austin 2018. The team qualified for the 2018 FACEIT London Major, though were eliminated in the Challengers Stage.
Vice left Rogue’s active lineup in March of 2019 to join Cloud9’s CS:GO side on a trial basis. The team finished sixth at BLAST Pro Series Miami, 13-16th at DreamHack Masters Dallas, and 9-12th at the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals. Vice was released from the organization in July, and has not competed in CS:GO since.
Vice now links up with Cloud9 once again to compete on the organization’s VALORANT team. The 24-year-old is joined by fellow former CS:GO players Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, Skyler “Relyks” Weaver, Mitch “mitch” Semago, and John “shinobi” Abastado. TenZ also played CS:GO for Cloud9, joining the team after vice’s departure. Vice has played alongside shinobi on multiple CS:GO rosters, including Denial in 2015, eUnited in 2016, and later Rogue in 2017.
Vice has competed in VALORANT since the game’s closed beta, and has stood in for Cloud9 multiple times since the game’s full release. With vice on the roster, Cloud9 placed second at both the Pulse Invitational and the PAX Arena Invitational. Additional recent results include a 5-6th placing at the FaZe Clan Invitational and a third placing at the Pittsburgh Knights Invitational Gauntlet Series.
Vice’s signing completes Cloud9’s competitive VALORANT lineup. The team is next scheduled to compete in Pop Flash, a VALORANT Ignition Series event hosted by FACEIT and B Site. Cloud9 will be joined by teams like TSM, T1, and Sentinels in the $50,000 tournament. Pop Flash will take place online, beginning on August 26th.
