Tenet, the new Christopher Nolan movie, is forging ahead with its July 2020 premiere date. distributor Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed. Other movie releases dates, such as the Top Gun Maverick release date, have been delayed because of COVID-19, but it seems that Warner Bros. has no plans to make changes.
Christopher Nolan-directed action flick Tenet will be in theaters on July 17, 2020, as Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff called it one of the company’s “tentpole” titles. Sarnoff said that Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984, which has been delayed to August, are “exactly the type of films that will have people eager to return to theaters.”
One big reason why Tenet, which stars John David Washington, Batman actor Robert Pattinson, and a cast of other well-known names, will be in theaters is because of Nolan’s ardent support for the cinematic experience. The movie’s trailer also suggests that viewers watch it in theaters to get the “maximum effect.” It was always unlikely that Warner Bros. would push Tenet to streaming sites as it has with Scoob!, its animated Scooby-Doo movie which releases next month.
Warner Bros. has also just delayed several of its other big movies like The Flash and Shazam 2. It may not want to lose any potential box office revenue by also delaying Tenet. It may have to if movie theaters around the world haven’t opened again by July 17, but it seems that it doesn’t plan to change the release date now.
Tenet will be released on July 17, 2020.
