The developer for Dying Light 2 has cut ties with Chris Avellone following allegations of sexual assault that emerged last week.

We can add this latest mishap to the pile for Dying Light 2’s disastrous development. Last week, lead writer Chris Avellone was accused by many women on social media of being a sexual predator, getting young women blackout drunk at conventions in order to assault them in his hotel room.

One Twitter user named Karissa painted a particularly grim picture of her own experience with Avellone. After spending the evening getting drunk with him and two friends, she was eventually carried back to her hotel room where Avellone “immediately pounced” on her. Karissa says that the only reason she was eventually able to fend off Avellone’s unwanted advances was due to being on her period.

Other women chimed in to say that they had similar experiences. Many also accuse Avellone of being a drunk, and that his behavior has resulted in him being blacklisted from several gaming conventions.

However, Avellone is a prominent figure within the industry and was until recently working with Techland on Dying Light 2. After these allegations came to light, Techland has announced that they’ve cut ties with Avellone and will continue work on the game without him.

“We treat matters of sexual harassment and disrespect with the utmost care, and have no tolerance for such behaviors - it applies to both our employees as well as external consultants, Chris among them,” the developer said in a statement. “This is why, together with Chris Avellone, we’ve decided to end our cooperation.

“We are still working towards delivering the experience we promised in Dying Light 2. Both our narrative team, which Chris supported, and the whole development team of Dying Light 2 continue progressing efficiently, according to the plan revised at the beginning of the year.”

This latest disaster just adds to the messy development that sources say have plagued Dying Light 2 since day one. The game was delayed earlier this year, although Techland assures fans that they’ll be able to release Dying Light 2 by the end of the year.
