The story-driven action RPG Children of Morta recently received the free Bergsons’ House update, which brings with it a new playable character, Apan, designed by two of the game’s Kickstarter backers. The update also adds 32 new Apan-specific runes, nine new story cutscenes, HUD and UI tweaks, multiple bug fixes, and more.

Apan is the seventh playable character to be added to Children of Morta. AgaRar and GlueBubble, the two Kickstarter backers who designed Apan, strongly believed in the Children of Morta project from the beginning. They wanted to create a character who would solidly complement the theme of family in the Children of Morta story. In the official press release, they included a statement speaking of their inspiration when creating Apan, calling her a “strong leader of nomadic healers who allies herself with the Bergsons to aid them in their fight against Corruption.”

Developed by Dead Mage Inc. (Shadow Blade, Shadow Blade: Reload) and published by 11 bit studios (Frostpunk, This War of Mine), Children of Morta is a game where family matters. The Bergson family are the Guardians of Mount Morta, lead by Uncle Ben and Grandma Margaret. Each member of the Bergson family has specific skills and inherited talents they use in their battle against the Corruption threatening Mountain Morta.

Apan, also known as Clan Mother, comes from far north of Mount Morta. She benefits the Bergson family by helping make each of them just a bit stronger in battle. On offense, Apan’s sturdy staff makes her a superb mid-range fighter. Her special ability is the Asva Pulse, a quick short dash that weakens opponents and leaves them vulnerable for a short time. Apan can also cast large area-of-effect spells. Defensively, Apan’s extensive medical knowledge aids the Bergson family by boosting the effects of healing potions, and by applying shields to each family member with the use of items and abilities.
