Next week will see the release of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future HD on mobile devices, so obviously developer Level-5 wants to promote it. In a brand new trailer for the HD port, we get to see some of the rerendered cutscenes and crisp artwork and I’m incredibly jealous. I’d kill to have a Switch port of these games or even a PC one. The Layton series is wonderful and it deserves the HD treatment.

If you’ve never played Unwound Future, you’re in for a real treat. Possibly the best entry in the series, it features a heartbreaking story that delves into titular character Hershel Layton’s past. It’s a real tear-jerker, that’s for certain.

If you’re wondering about the different title in the trailer, that comes from the British/Japanese localization. For whatever reason, the names for each Layton game were changed when coming to the United States. That’s why you’ll see Pandora’s Box as the second game.

For the US release of this new mobile port, you’ll have to look up Unwound Future. It’s a little confusing, but don’t sleep on this game. It’s one of my favorites and an absolute gem of the Nintendo DS library. We can only hope that these mobile ports convince Level-5 to bring them to other platforms soon.
